Has anyone checked to see if their system was vulnerable by using the intel detection tool and updated their BIOS and downloaded the MEUpdateTool? Cause it says my system is vulnerable.

My friend who is a software engineer was talking to me about this. He was making it seem like potentially a very big deal - though he made it seemed like it would be less of a concern for home desktop users, looks like I have some reading to do.

So far it look like a lot of speculation and no hard facts, at least publicly. AMD not effected.
Is it possible AMD has started this rumor ? |

Intel will not say anything but Linux programmers are working on it and MS will put one out on Tues. The "fix" will slow down the affected chips from 15 to 23% (StockNews.com)

So do we need to update the bios and download the MEupdate tool or is the update from Microsoft gonna fix it?

Amd is effected, their's is a little different from intel.
The patch is gonna start with KAISER as a temp then perhaps the actual solution, be it hardware or micro. Your mobo manufacturer will provide the firmware update needed. Tidgxor friend is correct, if you understand the vulnerability then you understand that in order to read 8gb of memory the hacker has to run 128 tests few bits at a time, meaning a pain in the ass, this type of work goes towards the cloud/servers you store stuff on, like banks, credit card companies, big business, hackers hack for money so they go after big money (businesses). This is from the actual study itself and the actual people that found the vulnerability. There are 2 main ones found by these groups: When it comes to these types of stuff i go straight to the source for most accurate information / facts. Edited by DST4ME - 04 Jan 2018 at 4:20am |

Great info, thanks for sharing! My friend was trying to explain some of this to me over the phone and my ears were growing cross-eared, the visuals and easier to understand text work better for my old noggin.

I haven't used it or similar in awhile, but try right clicking the icon and selecting Adminstrator to run it. Might have to Unlock it first after right click.

Unpack it to an external like a usb drive, disable anti virus, then run the update tool from usb with administrator privileges which is different from being an admin.
If the usb gives you issues then try your os drive. Edited by DST4ME - 04 Jan 2018 at 1:58pm |

Has anyone else noticed how DST4ME references himself in the plural? What if, what if... DST4ME is actually a massive AI that Digital Storm in testing? And when he's absent from the forums they are doing extensive in-house testing and upgrades? It would explain his vast knowledge and rapid response times.
Then the question becomes, what is Digital Storm's end game?? Also, are you vulnerable to this bug DST? Are you self aware? (I'm kidding of course, DST is awesome, I just need to fulfill my silly-Tidgxor-post quota for the day ) |

You guys want to know why I say asus sucks, here is one example:
I can't find ME driver update fix for meltdown from asus, other mobo is listed but ours is not. The model listed in bios is "tuf x299 mark2" bios version is 7020. Both are not listed and cant be found, so I tried to fill a tech request on asus website but thier stupid form will not accept my model name as the model name. So it made me (did not allow me to finish tech request) fill out a customer service request so this is my request: Below is an example of asus customer service that we rave about </sarcasm >, they didn't even read my email, mind you i had to wait 24 hours for this bs irrelevant response. Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. My name is Peter B. We take every care to ensure that ASUS products are secure in order to protect the privacy of our valued customers. We constantly strive to improve our safeguards for security and personal information in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, and we welcome all reports from our customers about product-related security or privacy issues. This can be an email address, a phone number or any other preferred way we can use to get in touch with you. If you provide a phone number, please include the full country code, area code and extension number (if applicable). Full and detailed information about the issue you wish to report. This should include the following information, as applicable: The name of the ASUS service(s) or system(s) that your concern relates to. The product type, product name and model number of the affected hardware products. The name, description and version number of any affected ASUS software products. A full and detailed description of the problem or issue, along with any background information that you believe is relevant, and any other pertinent information that may help us reproduce and/or resolve the issue. Responsible reporting guidelines ASUS appreciates all contributions from customers and the wider ASUS community that help to improve the security of our products and services. However, we kindly request that you act responsibly and bear in mind the following when investigating or reporting any issues: Do not attempt to access or modify any ASUS services, systems, products or software without authorization. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again for assistance. Best Regards, Peter B. ASUS Customer Care http://www.asus.com/us/support/ I even included a screenshot of our bios (where they say to go and see model and bios number at asus website) that shows our model number and bios number so they can see for themselves. OMG, talk about a BS, no info response. If they can’t get it together with mobo then maybe their graphics cards should also be given a wide berth. I certainly know your answer to their cards.
