I would suggest updating your gtx 680 to the gtx 1070 for its 4x vram, 2gb vs 8 gb, much newer architecture and 25% more CUDA cores. Rendering, shading, wireframe would see a big boost.
If your primary drive isn't an SSD then that would also give you a boost. |

Nope. System ram and video ram are utilized differently, so more vram would help in renderings and storage of textures, etc.
