Topic: Motherboard Help Posted: 05 Dec 2016 at 3:05pm |
Hey all,
I'm struggling deciding between the ASUS Z170-A and the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard's for my next build. I don't do high overclocks, just a slight to medium overclock. I just need to know what main differences there are between these boards apart from the looks. Which board is like better quality and has more features? Thanks for any help! |

Here's a guide to compare the various mobo...
http://www.custompcguide.net/the-differences-between-all-asus-mainstream-z170-motherboards/ Basically, you're paying extra for the z170-A for a thunderbolt header, s/pdif optical out, memOK and other onboard devices you might or might not need. For most, the Pro will do it, but check the specs and see if there's something you want. |

Both boards have just the stuff I need it's just I can't decide between which board would last me longer and which uses the better capacitors and which would give me better performance in during gaming. I assume the Pro Gaming would have the slight edge when it comes to gaming but I'm not sure due to the A's significan price difference.

No, you won't notice a difference between the two in terms of gaming, especially with just a slight OC. The Z170-A is the higher quality motherboard, but honestly I'd save the little bit and get he Pro Gaming. Wireless, m.2, etc...
The Z170-A is damn near workstation quality. The idea is, it's extremely premium. Which isn't a bad thing or a gimmick. I've used the Deluxe motherboards in the past myself. Just depends if you're willing to pay more. Either way you won't really notice a difference for gaming, at all. The Pro Gaming might actually be able to overclock better honestly. |

Ive decided to go for the Maximus VIII Hero, got a bigger budget so splashed it on a better motherboard and power supply. But thanks for the help, I'll definitely recommend the Z170-A because as you said it's higher quality. Thanks again!
