So I got a Bolt 3 last year and love my new pc. Now just over the horizon there is this killer new video card coming out. I currently am running a GTX 980Ti, now my basic question is...
Can the Bolt 3 support the new GTX 1080 cards? Mostly a power concern, it can support up to a Titan and these supposingly Nvidia says that the GTX 1080 is faster than the Titan X, three times as power efficient so I would think yes. |

If all the posted specs are correct, the gtx 1080 will be about 180 tdp, where the 980ti is 250 tdp . That means about a third less draw on the psu which also means less heat generated. And a single 8 pin connector from psu.
Should be an easy fit. |

1.) The GTX 1080 out performs the titan x in a 1v1 match at 1080p, 1440p, and 4k.
2.) The GTX 1080 out performs GTX 980 in SLI (2 way and not the Ti, just the regular 980). 3.) Less requirements for power cables and the draw is less. If your computer can currently handle a GTX 980 Ti, it can hand a GTX 1080. 4.) You can basically assume that for every 980 Ti you have, that's two 1080's you can rock. But unless you're willing to do an auth key application and remote bios update, you won't get anything higher than 2 way (And yes, Nivida has confirmed the cards can do 3 and 4 way SLI. Journalist are just stupid. Ignorant for reporting no more > 2 way) |
