Topic: Printer Question Posted: 21 Jun 2016 at 4:57pm |
Trying to install a HP Office-Jet Pro 8710 on my Digital storm S/N:5102JUL46276 and S/N5102JUL46278 Contacted HP and they said a Tech guy would have to change a few things on my hard drive to get it to work. For a $99 fee of coarse. For now I just use another computer on a group network to print anything I need. Is there any way I can do this my self? He said some kind of printer software needs to be added to my hard drive.

HP website has a Printer install wizard to install and use for driver updates. I'd use that or manually go to Support, put in your model number and find, download and install the driver for your OS, Windows 7,8,10.

I did that and it did not work. A guy from HP came on chat and took over my computer. he said that changes had to be made on my hard drive to get it to work. It would cost me $99 to have them make the changes

They way it works is that for your printer to communicate with your pc, it needs to be connected to the pc wire/wireless and also the pc needs drivers for the printer so that they can communicate.
Now what is not working? if the printer is installed and connected and the drivers are connected then what is the problem? 1. is the printer being recognized in windows? if yes then: 2. can you print, I assume not, what happens when you go to print?> |

Technically he was right about the hard drive , just making it sound like rocket science instead of a saved setting on the drive. Glad it's working and enjoy. |

I don't know he is stretching it by saying changes needs to be made to the hdd, as a matter of fact that kind of a talk tells me that this tech didn't know crap and is a pure noob.
there are no changes that needs to be made to the hdd itself, drivers needed to be installed and settings needed to be changed, all of those can be called writing to the hdd but changes to the hdd I say NO. Glad you got them working 100% of the time when a new acquaintance does not listen to me and calls dell/hp/etc tech, first part of the call is when I start to correct the tech in front of them. These so called techs are nothing but noobs with an instruction book in front of them. Edited by DST4ME - 21 Jun 2016 at 5:44pm |
