Topic: Question on my processor Posted: 19 Sep 2016 at 10:23pm |
I have a quick question...I have windows 10 pro.. the task manager is only showing 5 out of 10 cores / processors being used. How do I fix this to have all 10 of my cores or processors being used. I've noticed that when I benchmark, my cpu score is really low. Even on cinebench R15, it shows 5 processors instead of 10. Thanks for your help!

Screenshot of your cpu-z please.
do all cores show up in the bios? have you checked the core settings in msconfig? is your windows and net framework up to date? Edited by DST4ME - 19 Sep 2016 at 10:54pm |

Hey DST.. its a windows 10 issue. I remember having this issue a few months ago when I had my 5960X / Win 8.1. When I did the free upgrade to Win 10 I noticed it then. NOW my new system has Win 10 imaged on the SSD. I still have my win 8.1 OS disk and media drive.. do you think I can do a clean install of win 8.1 on this new drive?
All cores do show up in the bios / misconfig boot options has 10 cores showing as well - no new windows update is showing, I check multiple times a day.. net frame work? How would I know which one to use? Thanks! Edited by Clay - 20 Sep 2016 at 6:15am |

In your case you are right its a win10 anniversary bug apparently.
I would assume you could install win8.1 There is a conflict with win10 update and netframe update that have caused the conflict. we can try a few things: 1. use easybcd and see if we get lucky Go here and downlaod the free version of easybcd boot off of it and go to the window below here check the box "cpu core limit" and set it to zero. then click save and reboot. once you have rebooted lets see if we get lucky and all cores show up in task manager. if not then we have to find out your update version and the netframework version you have. Glad you got it sorted |

Yeah, after reinstalling windows 10 ( Full clean install.. took just over an hour ) I noticed when I went to command prompt / boot tab / advance settings / theres a box for the cores which show 0 - well, stupid me, I always go in there and put my total number of cores! WRONG ANSWER!! You are not supposed to mess with that at all! In reinstalled windows for no reason!!! O M G I was so mad!!

Stupid win10, it should just pick it up correctly and not put you thru the hassle.
But you are loving those 10 cores tho right, right |
