I use APC XS 1500. It is an UPS so you get some time to shut down in case of a power brownout or total failure.
We get a lot of those down here (So. Fla.) so a lot of homes have standby generators ready to kick in after total failures.

The UPS keeps the systems on until the generator provides power.

What's inexpensive?

I use an APC XS1500 which is listed for 199.99 at Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/apc-power-saving-back-ups-xs-1500-black/9307831.p?id=1218081367518&skuId=9307831

It hasn't let me down yet and gives me enough time to save any work and properly shut down my system.

Thankful for this post because it reminds me I need to up my game to protect my new system. I have had some weird power issues in my house. I had to replace 3x DirectTV boxes in the last couple of years and the psu on my old pc after a storm.
