I'd love to hear any opinions on this configuration.
Budget:$4000 This system will be exclusively for gaming on an ultrawide monitor (3440x1440, 100 Hz). I play all types of games, including: The Witcher 3, Civ 6, The Long Dark, Minecraft, Fallout 4, GTA5, Alien: Isolation, Dishonored 2 and Far Cry 4. A couple questions I have: -Will the overclocked CPU make much difference? If I went with stock speeds I could probably just air cool (my freezing-ass basement never gets above 65 degrees). -Is the 1000W PS overkill? I'll never have more than one graphics card because I've had bad luck with SLI in the past. -Is the M.2 SSD worth it? This will be my second rig from DS. My last one has lasted 6 years and is the best I've ever had by far. Before that I bought from Alienware (meh), Falcon Northwest (good but overly expensive), and Dell (crap), and none were as reliable or as well built or had as good of customer service as DS. (Dell<Alienware<Falcon NW<<<<DS). Any help is much appreciated! Yes, 1000 Watts is complete overkill.
32GB DDR4 3200MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum DHX (Extreme-Performance) = overkill and possibly a waste of money. http://techbuyersguru.com/gaming-ddr4-memory-2133-vs-26663200mhz-8gb-vs-16gb 16 Gb 2666 Mhz RAM should be enough. An M.2 SSD is overkill for most of us. For what you're intending, a SATA SSD like the 2TB Samsung 850 EVO or PRO would better suit your needs in regards to fast-loading games and faster boot times. |

Great info, thanks. What are your thoughts on just going with air cooling? Although I notice they don't offer the Noctua anymore. I'm assuming because of the weight and problems it caused with shipping. |

I personally like an air cooler for dependability and basically no issues for years, but not sure how the one they offer would handle the Kaby Lake at 4.8 and above. My guess is that it will work, but haven't checked any benches yet. Even no added overclock is good, the 7700k does Turbo to 4.5. Not a bad speed.
Follow the advice given and the build looks real good. Edited by bprat22 - 15 Feb 2017 at 8:11am |

I have a DS ODE Level 4 that is almost five years old. The Corsair AIO liquid cooler on it (CPU only) has NEVER needed any maintenance. And I've never had an issue with heat or stability.
In fact, I just recently did my first format because I added a 1TB EVO 850 drive as the main. Best computer I've ever owned. Until my new DS Velox ships, that is. 😎H Edited by BOTA:146 - 15 Feb 2017 at 11:23am |

I have had my Corsair A70 air cooler for almost six years with no maintenance and no heat or stability issues overclocked to 4.4. Just messing around. AIO coolers are very reliable and very good performance, but, they do have a much higher failure rate than air coolers. Have never seen one fail on the forums but many AIO's have failed. |

No heat or stability issues in 5 years with that overclock? That's impressive. Makes me wonder if I should just have them overclock to 5.0 GHz. |

Not one problem. In fact, I'm right this minute flying from Vancouver to Seattle in FSX. Trying to stay busy waiting for my new system to go to Stage 7. 😎 |
