Desktop Guru's
Sent my Hailstorm back to DS to correct some minor problems and LCS upgrade. 2 questions: 1. Is it worth it to upgrade to a dedicated sound card? 2. Is the current 6GB 1600 MHz of ram enough for gaming and most applications or is it worth it to increase to 12GB? |

sound card. It will add more hardware, and more software, which in turn adds more potential problems. If you have some logitech speakers, or equivalent, you will not hear much of a difference. But if you do have, or will soon have a nice speaker/headphone setup, and don't mind the small negatives, then yes a good sound card certainly adds a small bit of sound quality.
2. 6GB of RAM should be plenty, if you were using over 70% of your RAM before in apps, then get 12GB, otherwise leave it alone.

Thanks for the info Justin. One other question. While my Hailstorm is back at DS was going to have the CPU overclocked more for performance not to achieve the highest benchmarks. Would 4.00 be reasonable and stabile for my extreme 975 3.33 CPU?

all chips are different, do you have a single, dual, or triple radiator for the CPU? Heat/persons skill, will be the limiting factor as to how far it can be overclocked. The CPU should be able to do 4.4Ghz-4.7Ghz for 24/7 useage, and be rock stable.. So a goal of 4.0 is very reasonable, and they should have no problems getting it there.

Thanks Justin.
Having DS upgrade my LCS to stage 6 so 4.0 should be good to go. Very pleased with the service from DS so far. So much better than my previous experiences with Alienware and Dell. Also have gotten a lot of good info from this forum. |

Right on about Dell. IMO they ruined Alienware. i also have a MacBookPro i use for business when traveling and the service from Apple has been very good. But so far DS has been great and have recommended them to friends and colleagues.
