My rig is over 7years old now. Looking to give it a little upgrade and try to squeeze another good year or so from it.
Would you guys go 970 or 1060 for a gpu? I've always stayed clear of the 60 level cards, thinking them not really up to snuff, but I have a 770 now and they are both nice upgrades for fairly similar price. Could save about 40 bucks with the 970. Also going to bump from 6 gigs of memory to 12. Any way to test my hardware first to see what kind of shape its in at its age? I'd hate to spend 300 bucks just to have the MB die next month. That money could go to a new Hailstorms!😄 Thanks |

AS for how long or when will you parts die, that is hard to tell and no real way of telling that, we can put the pc under heavy stress but that won't mean next month something could die on you.
Your solution here is simple, if you are at 1080p and planing on staying there go 1060, worst case scenario the pc dies a day after you get the 1060, at which point you take out the 1060 and put it in the new pc you gonna get, obviously you would order the new pc without gpu since you have your own. i would absolutely buy a 1060 over a 970 unless someone is selling it to you for dirt cheap.
