Good morning to all digitalstorm enthusiasts. I need your help please I recently purchased two Vanquish 7 bottom of the barrel PC. For some reason or another my kids are unable to run rust. at this point being it only has 8 megabytes memory should I upgrade to 16 and would that help or should I invest in a solid state drive and if so is that even compatible with what I purchased with the Vanquish 7? I appreciate your assistance and patience with this dumb old daddy.

There are a number of problems with Rust. The fact that the game is ~still~ in early access means that the optimization has not ever been considered, yet. The game struggles on stronger machines as well.

The second issue is not the RAM but the fact that the Vanquish level 1 does not have a discreet GPU. The Vanquish uses the integrated graphics and will be taxed to play a lot of today's games. This, along with the above, means that Rust is going to have problems.

And lastly, you are correct, again because of the EA status of the game, 8Gb RAM just isn't enough.

To sum up, it's not just the computers that is causing the issue, it is the game that you've chosen to run on it. As a backer of Rust from years ago (2014), I have given up on the game as just another cash grab from a studio who can't be bothered to try to finish the game.

Just my 2¢...

EDIT:.... I've just read that Rust is not longer in Early Access. So some of my points are no longer valid. I am still angry at FacePunch studios for the crap they pulled with this game and am leaving this post as is... I will be looking into the game to see if it is optimized but they have a long way to go to convince me that they have actually reached a point where the game is playable.

You guys are awesome! Thank you for your input and knowledge. So at this point are my children screwed with the Vanquish 7? Is there a way to a day dedicated graphics card in which case can the motherboard support it? I know I can upgrade the memory and RAM but I'm not sure about the graphics card? Sorry for all the stupid questions. And they will be staying away from the game rust until it is optimized as you stated above. Thank you.

Adding a GPU is a very simple process. There are many youtube videos and posts here that can show you how. I replaced the original GPU in my Vanquish 2.. and if I can do it, etc etc etc. The only thing I do not know about (and most of the forum gurus around here ~do~ know) is about the power cord to the new GPU. Mine was already there waiting for me so it was easy to spot. (Here is a link to my thread about installing my new 1070, if your interested.)

As far as the optimization... if Rust has come out of EA as they claim (something I've just read about this morning) then they should have optimized the game. Check on the game's requirements for play, you may see a higher gpu than your integrated graphics... but that I'll leave to the smarter folks around here.

As for the stupid questions... don't stop. No one here has asked the more stupid questions than me and only by the kindness of the smart folks that come around here was I able to learn anything. These guys are really good, patient and helpful. So, send as many questions as necessary... consider it a challenge.

Cheers!

•Network: Broadband Internet connection.
•Storage: 10 GB available space.

@snaike I appreciate your patience and knowledge. I shall watch that link you attached and see what trouble I can get myself into. Thank you for your help sir. As far as I can tell they should be able to run rust with the minimum requirements. Just not sure about that Vega 11 that our systems have in it.

Vanquish level one is a basic "starter" type rig. The good news is that the mobo, processor, power supply, and RAM are all up to some pretty solid higher end upgrades. I wouldn't hesitate to throw a GTX 1060 video card in there for some excellent video performance, and you could go higher.

Cretae. Thank you very much. I just went on Amazon and did some wishful Shopping and looked at

2 AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler - YD270XBGAFBOX
and
2 8GB of RAM and it came to $808. Ouch!!! I may have to wait until next month.

Before you buy any RAM you have to make sure that A) it is compatible with your motherboard and B) if you're adding and not replacing you're going to have to match speeds.

I would suggest, if you're interested in more RAM, to head over to Crucial.com and use their little RAM app to see what is compatible.

In my own case (Vanquish 2, about 5 years ago) I was at 8Gb RAM.. but to get to 16Gb I had to replace as my motherboard only had 2 RAM slots... so, replace them I did. Easy to do as well.

Looks like that's what I'm going to do first. Buy 2 16 memory cards and give both PC's one and see if that helps any before I go buying any graphics cards. Thank you all.

As I am not really a fan of integrated graphics, I would be tempted to start with a GPU install... Is it just this game that won't run? Can you start it and it's low FPS or just nothing?

It starts up it just really low frame rates. And I have a feeling it's only on that game. As they're able to play other games it might just be the game rust. Not being optimized. It appears as if they can play other games just fine.

From the shopping you were doing, it seems to me I misspoke. What I was saying is that the basic platform you have in the mobo, CPU power supply and RAM are quite good AS IS for upgrading to a video card, and perhaps some faster storage down the road if needed.

The RAM, although a good thing to think about upgrading, is not your current problem. It's the lack of a dedicated graphics card. I highly suggest you look at a different thread in the Technical Assistance section entitled "Installing a GPU in Vanquish & Level 1". That user has achieved some excellent results using an AMD Radeon graphics card seeking exactly the kind of performance boost you are seeking.

Another 8GB of RAM for each of your rigs will not do much for you.

Hope it helps.

This is the thread that Cretae was mentioning...

Here is a link to the card on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/MSI-RX-560-AERO-ITX/dp/B072J422CZ for all the specs and questions.

I am in agreement with Cretae that if you want your kids to play Rust with these new machines the first step will be the dedicated GPU... RAM is secondary.

I'm going to look that thread topic up today. You two are the most wonderful people. Thank you for your understanding and helpfulness. We shall see what we can achieve with what we have and maybe upgrading a dedicated GPU like stated above by both of you. Thank you very much.

And I appreciate you for that. It appears I'm going to be purchasing two of the

MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 128-bit 4GB GDRR5 DirectX 12 VR Ready CFX Graphcis Card (RX 560 AERO ITX 4G OC) Ashley poster in the other thread mentioned this worked well for him. I kind of wanted to see if there was a step up from this one but I can't tell in the descriptions what would be just one step up.

The Nvidia brand 1050 Ti is a bit better performer at a smallish bump up in price. To be honest, I don't know much about the Radeon brand cards, but typically, the next best card will be a higher number. Like the RX 570 perhaps.

Sorry, I'm on the road right now trying to use a tablet for this, or Id give you better info.

Not sure if you plan on sli, linking the two together, but the gtx 1060 doesn't have the sli link pins/fingers, so no sli.  You can link them if the mobo or application supports MDA, which is where the cards read linked only thru the Pcie connection.  No bridge.

Bpratt22 no plans on doing that. I was hoping just to plug and play. As it's much better than the integrated graphics card that has now.

So you are using the 2 gtx 1060 in 2 different computers or two monitors running a different application ?

Rust will only see a single gtx 1060.

@bprat22: the OP has 2 new Vanquishes. I believe that he is installing each card on each pc. No sli on one.

@jsumners:: you might have to go to Nvidia and download the drivers. When you install and boot on, go to Device Manager and look for the graphic card and make sure its there. Also, make sure you connect the monitor to the card and not the mobo. Let us know how it goes. That is a very nice card. You will definitely see improvement. Awesome

They're going to be very pleased with ole Dad, lemme tell ya!
