    Posted: 14 Feb 2017 at 10:47am
I am currently running a ASUS STRIX 980ti. I am thinking of replacing it with a blower model 1080 card. I have a Slade system that was picked up last year. My resolution is 2560x1440. Is this a good upgrade? I am thinking about this to help with some heat issues. I know the 980ti dumps it's heat into the case where a 1080 with a blower will send it out the back of the case. Any thoughts?

Hi Bronwen...   A reference type card with single blower will definitely help with any case build up of heat since, like you said, the blower will exit the heat out the back.  How much depends on a lot of things.

Here's a comparison of what you can expect in frames going from a 980ti to a 1080......

Not a bad 30% boost in frames average and less heat in the case.

What are the heat issues ?   Normally a single custom cooler card like your 980ti Strix wouldn't pose a big problem even in the closed Corsair 550D, but depends on how hard you push it.  Make sure all your fans are running.

Hope this helps. Big%20Smile

My two issues are heat and dust. Right now our temps are low, so the room the PC is in is not hot. During the summer we hit temps over 100 degrees and the room gets hot. We also have dust that gets everywhere. I spend two days a week cleaning out the dust. Because of this i have noticed the fans spinning up due to the temps. They are not hitting critical levels yet, but i have had some video tearing because of it.

Yeah, high ambient temps like you have mean hot air trying to cool the heatsinks and rads. I'm sure you do, but make sure you blow out the fins for any CPU cooler you have, whether the air coolers large heat sink or liquid's rads.

Tearing could be the CPU or gpu throttling back.

When i clean it out, i make sure to get everywhere. I also hold the fans to keep them from spinning. Thank you for your help.

I have two 980's sli. They are not the blower style so one blows hot air right into the other one causing that cards fan to get pretty loud. I've been waiting to hear something about the 1080ti so I can swap to just one card or a price drop on the 1080s.

I replaced the ASUS 980ti Strix with a Asus 1080 Turbo. So far everything is running great. No hang ups like before. The big test will be during the summer months.
