    Posted: 14 Dec 2017 at 4:07pm
I had the folks at Digital Storm build me a desktop several years ago.  The CPU is i7-4770K @ 3.5ghz.  I've upgraded the graphics card a couple years ago to a GTX 980 ti, and have been very happy with how it handles all my games at 1920x1080 resolution.

I've been doing some research on making the move to a 4k setup.  Looks like I need to go to a GTX 1080 ti - but that's where I start needing advice.  I see some posts claiming that my CPU will bottleneck the 1080 ti, and some say it will be fine.

I don't want to waste my money and not end up happy with where I'm at.  I want to get high to ultra settings and decent frame rates at 4k.  If a 1080 ti with my current CPU won't get me there, I'd rather start saving my money and get a new rig when I can afford it than throw money at something that's not going to be what I want.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your 4770k cpu Turbos to 4.3 , I believe, which is decent gaming speed.  If you oc'd it then all the better.  Either way, you might see some bottleneck but not enough to justify a new rig , IMHO.

To play 4K on max/ultimate with the most demanding games you'd need an sli setup.  That said, a single 1080Ti will play at 4K and look nice, just not maxed settings in all cases.   Maxed settings isn't needed for good game-play, but everyone has different expectations.

Worst case scenario you put the 1080 ti in a new rig.

I agree with bp oc the cpu, that will do it, try turbo, it will get 2 of your cores to 3.9ghz. We prefer 4.2, but see if you are satisfied with 3.9.

Bp meant to say 3.9 not 4.3, he was looking at a different cpu accidentally
