Im still torn between 5.1 and 2.1. Generally leaning towards 2.1 due to the fact ill be using mobo sound AND i dont wanna trip over cords all over the place.
 
The prices come to about the same 90-100ish range. Nothing too fancy for me. So price wont be an issue when comparing them.

Or if you guys think there is something better out there for 90-100 bucks recommend me something. I forgot i needed new speakers to go with my computer, as im keeping the old one with me, so it will use the old speakers.
 
(I also forgot a second powerstrip and a second mouse haha...took care of that problem at best buy today though! )

I use to have the X-530 speakers when I lived in Turkey.  Sold them and my old rig when I moved to England.  Purchased the X-540 speakers from my local BX (it was all they had w/ 5.1) and love them.  Basically the same as the X-530 but with a remote, and I absolutely love having a remote.  No more squeezing under my desk and reaching for the subwoofer to turn down the bass or volume!

Yea those look nice, and having the surround sound effect would be cool, but those 5.1s are only 70 watts, vs 200 on the 2.1 Then again I know NOTHING when it comes to speakers about how to tell quality from cheap trash...so thats why im asking on here ...

I've never had my 530/540s over 75% volume, they definately have enough power for gaming/casual use.  Especially since most of the speakers are only a few feet from me.  Unless you're using them to blast music through the house, the lower watts on the 540 shouldn't be an issue.

I don't have them setup in the best surround sound positions, but can still "feel" the sound coming at me in different directions (rear-left, left, center, right, rear-right.  Subwoofer's bass is solid, especially when I'm blasting stuff with a shotgunDead

I had the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 and gave them to my wife.  Got the Bose Companion 3 Series II set-up.  Blows the Logitech out of the water for sound quality.

For the price they better damn should lol. Honestly like i said im not a sound nazi, i have a bose system for my TV and i honstly dont really notice much difference from my old speakers. So going way high on price for speakers on my computer really isnt something i wanna do.

I've tried so many 2.1 speaker set-ups with my computers and this little Bose system has been the best investment I've made thus far.  It's well worth the cash.  I may sell the wife's Logitech and get her a Bose also.

I will offer up only this: don't pay attention to numbers on spec sheets. Shop for audio with your ears. One man's trash is another man's treasure. This is never more true than it is with audio. Ignore the audio snobs, ignore reviews, audition the speakers and decide for yourself.

There isnt a place around here where i can test those speakers out though =/. Best buy only has the bose systems out, and yea...there isnt any real other computer store in this little village in arkansas haha.

This is so true when it comes to sound.  Extremely subjective.  What I didn't like about the Logitech is that it had no crisp highs.  As a matter of fact, next to the Bose, the Logitech sounds muddy.  The Bose gives you crisp highs with the Jewel Cubes and the bass is phenomenal coming from such a small box.  Couple that with the Creative Audio Console and you have a very nice range to play with both lows, and highs.  The nice thing about the Companion is that you can go to BB and demo it before you buy it.

Well, as an ex-reviewer, I agree with tyler. I always ended my reviews with a statement like listen for yourself before you buy. I've seen people buy expensive audio gear without listening to them just because a reviewer liked it. One guy came into a store I was at and just bought a $40,000 D/A converter just for the name and the reviews it got. I've listened to more audio gear than the average person and can tell you from experience that I've liked stuff that others simply hated. It's a matter of person preference as to what you like. There's many approaches to what sounds more realistic than you can imagine. After all, not even a 2 million dollar system can sound like a live performance. Now that's extreme and certainly the most expensive system I listened to for an extended period, but audio reproduction will always have shortcomings. Some systems will emphasis a boomy bass, some will have the highs covered. Others will try to get the midrange most accurate, while another might strive for imaging. There's always a give and take to these aspects, especially when you're limited to a small speaker costing under $25,000.

In summary, listen to speakers with a sound card similar to yours using reference material (music or wotever) that you are very familiar with. Let your ears decide what you want!

well i have a logitech 5.1 and i use to have a 2.1 ...there is quite a difference i have noticed...5.1 is better ...im sure bose is better..but im satisfied with what i got..for now..lmaoLOL

Of course there will be a noticeable difference in a 5.1 vs. a 2.1 set-up.  I am talking about 2.1 vs. 2.1, specifically the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 vs. the Companion 3 Series II.  I've got a surround system in the media room to watch movies, so the wife doesn't want me hanging speakers everywhere in my office.  She'd never see me if I did that.

I have the Fatal1ty headphones/microphone headset from creative, the nicer ones, they seem to be great both for sound and voice quality.

Creative has/had them on sale for 65 from 100 (99.99) so it seemed a pretty good deal. Thus far I am impressed they are much better than my last set.

As Far as speakers, I have a nice creative 2.1 set, works for me, sounds good, not to muddy and for what I enjoy, it is great.

I've listened to the full lineup of Grado headphones and can attest to the fact that they are the best quality sound at each price point. Their only competition are Sennheisers, but even those are much weaker in the bass and slightly artificial sounding. My Grado RS-1s are the best sounding headphones I've heard for under $15,000. (Sennheiser's Reference Electrostatics retail $15,000 and do sound better in most ways). That said, for $650, they make a good showing and still sound more natural and musical. You can't go wrong with Grados if you take the time to adjust the metal headband to fit your head well. Sennheisers are still the champions of comfortable headphones, however. They just don't sound as good for the price.

wow...

I have never paid 15,000 for an entire electronics suite, let alone a pair of headphones... I guess I am just to cheap and have no need to hear the difference between a silver pin and a steel one dropping on a concrete floor :)

For my money if I had 15 grand to burn it would not be on headphones, it would be a big down payment on a  new car, or a nice month long vacation. :)

I would recommend the use of a nice set of headphones, but if you want speakers, the Razer Mako system is really nice (google it), or the Creative Gigaworks.

Oh I love headphones, I just got the creative Fatal1ty headphones, the nicer set, (100 bucks retail which for me for headphones is alot) but I got them on sale for 60.

I need a set with a mic so that tends to drop out the high end audiophile stuff immediately and the sound of the fatal1ty headphones is about the best I have heard in a gaming headset ever.

I've never heard the Bose set so I can't compare them, but I have the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's and love them. They are normally in the 160-180 range so are still over the Logitecs but cheaper than the Bose.

i have the bose system for my rig now. i like them. but it depends on what you are doing, gaming-not so much but movies (if you want to view them on a 22 inch screen) then go ahead its worth the money.
