No idea if this belongs in this forum, but wanted to ask.
I am looking to order a new PC within the next 2-4 weeks. I've always been an Intel guy and am eyeing the 8700K (don't know if I want to go way expensive and get the i9). My question though, do we have any idea how much this Meltdown situation is going to affect these CPUs once patches starting coming out? I'd hate to order this and then get major slowdown. Thanks! |

From early tests it looks like mainly heavy workload tasks, cloud and virtualization are the most prone. Testing on games such as Ashes of Singularity and others show no frame rate difference after the fix.
But, that’s not to say some games won’t take a hit. AMD might take a hit by Spectre, but they say very little. |

Hmmm thanks, may just take the chance. Guess we'll see for sure by the time I order anyways.

Any slowdowns will mainly affect any workload that requires heavy cpu usage. Games are primarily gpu driven. The architecture of cpus has to be modified to protect performance due to "speculative execution". All the fixes do is avoid se therefore slowing down the performance of the cpu.
