I have been watching videos, brushing up on my PC logic. I heard someone say that you need to change the liquid cooling once every 6 months to a year. Is this true with the liquid DS uses or no? I am just worried about changing because I would be extremely nervous with liquids around my PC parts!

There was a time a yearly coolant change was needed. Now, every few years is recommended, assumimg of course it doesn't start clouding up. In most cases, a coolant change isn't needed every year.
Nothing wrong with staying on air. Fewer potential problems and easier to work on. But, under water does allow for a quieter, cooler, higher overclock system. I tend to trade off the benefits of water for the simplicity of air. KISS isn't a bad philosophy. |

It appears you ordered the Hydrolux Lite ? If so, that's a hybrid all in one, sealed unit that the manufacturer advertises as needing no maintenance over its 3 year warranty. Some have experienced clouding in the fluid. The sealed units like h100i probably also experience some clouding but it doesn't have the windowed reservoir to see it.

It depends, if its a sealed unit there is nothing you can really do, but for best results you should change it once a year, not that it would be good after a year but "For best results" you want to change it once a year.
KISS is a great philosophy. |

No, any HydroLux system will be an open loop. The Lite uses the Swiftech H320 X2 (or H220 X2 in the Bolt 3) which are open-loop expandable kits and can have the liquid flushed and replaced. The CPU-only liquid coolers like the Corsair are closed-loop and are maintenance-free for the life of the unit (warrantied for 5 years). The closed-loop units do not lose performance over time...open-loop systems may get leeched plasticizer of clear flexible tubing, corrosion (if incompatible materials are in the loop, such as aluminum and copper or sliver and nickel), or flash from the radiator (if it is not adequately flushed before using).

As mentioned if you went with HydroLux then that can be drained but closed system like corsair can't be.
I like to add that closed loop system do not have the same temps when compared to other open lc systems like the HydroLux, HydroLux will have better temps. |
