I am planning on getting my 4th system from DS. I use my computer 80% gaming and watching movies, etc. I have a 1440p monitor, but might upgrade to 4k in the future. I am slightly restricted in space so was considering a Bolt 3. Would the 6700k chip with one 980ti be enough for 1440 gaming? If I choose to customize a system with 2 980ti's, would the 6700 be a good enough processor? Keep reading about bottle necking issue, but want to stay away from the X99 chipset, since it will probably be overkill. I know if I go X99, I will want to do the 8 core 5960. Thanks in advance for any bits of wisdom shared here. Budget is about $4,000.
Regards! |

Skylake is perfect for gaming. you don't need X99 unless you plan to game and use as a workstation for rendering/modeling/etc.
if you go with a Bolt you won't be able to sli and than means realistically 4k is out. a single 980ti can efficiently run today's popular demanding titles at 1440p even on an ultra wide monitor at the highest settings, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have 2xsli 980ti's especially if you want to upgrade to 4k at some point. you won't see cpu bottlenecking unless you try to sl1 3 or more vid cards, at least not on an I7-6700K. |

I am looking for a smaller type of case. Would the Silverstone ft103 (Enix) case be usable with SLI 980ti's. Probably could not go with the Strix edition since they release the heat inside the case. Any suggestions for a case for someone with size restrictions? Thanks again guys!

The FT103 could handle dual GPUs, but you'd really want blower style reference coolers on them in the tight confines of the case. Otherwise with an open cooler, like the Strix, it is going to recirculate the hot air, reducing the efficiency of the cooler. You'd have to contact DS about configuring the FT103...they don't have any micro-ATX boards listed in their configurator.
db188, if you tried to put a processor and dual GM200 card on that one radiator, you're probably going to be running around 80 degree C when under load. I don't think the PC-05S has any additional spots to mount a radiator, either. BTW, weren't you going to order an Aventum 3? |

i've been in back and forth emails with Alex the past 2 days over the config, as i'm doing a lot of special order parts to get my system dialed in to how i want it to run and look i have to say Alex has been really responsive running back and forth between the engineering department and me. The PC-05S can only support the 240mm rad, so that probably won't be feasible to completely water cool a system like that in a Bolt 3.
Looking forward to seeing what you get! |

i tend to agree with you.
i'll show it off and report on the interactive process with DS. it should be illuminating to potential new buyers, especially one's who really want to customize beyond using the configurator. i'm usually loathe to "show off" because it's boorish and let's face it the internets likes to hate. but the people here are good folks so, why not? plus, it's really exciting, and i've never really gone off the deep end with a pc build before. this rig walks the line between performance and plain obscene pc porn. You're right there, db. On this forum we really enjoy "showing off" and like to see, drool, on others good fortune. Reviews and pics keep us going. Even when the forums was much more active, hence my forum count , only rarely did someone come along and start slinging their negativity.

Definitely show off db!! If someone comes to a boutique shop's website and starts 'hating' on someone who posts their build, I'd say they are out of line. That's the beauty of the forums. I like looking at other people's builds and also, you can learn from it.
