Budget:
Under3500

Expectations:
Fast, reliable, quiet, 4 years plus of service

Usage:
Home workstation: AutoCAD (w/ large pointclouds), Revit, Recap, Bluebeam.

Special Needs:
Windows 10 vs Windows 7....
(Waiting for Autodesk certification on Revit and Recap.)
Do I gamble and go w/ 10?
I'd like to run 4 monitors. Two of them 4k.

To get this build to work w/ the 5930k I had to pick the 2 GPU Slade and modify. (5930 because of Autocad multi-threading when manipulating a PC.) Concerning the size of the SSD: do I store any work data on the ssd? Or is this strictly for the OS & apps? Am I over-killing anything?

I'm new at this (trying to spec a pc). So I'f it looks like I have no idea, that may be the case.

Regards.

i think W10 is still working out the compatibility kinks, but if you're going with a new system build, you might as well upgrade now.  a couple of friends have upgraded and they don't report any issues.

I upgraded my current computer to Windows 10 the day it went live. Have had zero incompatibility problems since then. Pretty flawless thus far and went with Windows 10 for my new computer.

From what I'v read, recap and revit will load/run on a wdw 10 machine that was upgraded from 7 (or 8). Clean wdw 10 machine = no bueno. I can pawn my revit work off for a bit, but I must be able to run recap...

I read somewhere that Xeon's were "locked" and could not be overclocked. Today DigitalStorm confirmed that.

Yep, only the "K" and "X" processors are unlocked. The Xeon's are locked as they are focused on stability, something overclocked processors are not known for.

I use windows 10 on my new DS Laptop and it runs very well. I like it just as much and maybe a tad more than Windows 7. It's a fantastic OS. I'd take the upgrade.
