Hey guys any knowledge about when your PC won't recognize your HDD and reads "bzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzb" on the post screen. I only found a little info on this and it seems it coud be a bad hdd drive, sata cable, and/or sata controller. Any thoughts on the most likely suspect. I did unplug then replug my sata connector and haven't had a problem.
Could it have been as simple as a bad connection? Edited by AndydViking - 17 Apr 2010 at 11:21pm |

I don't have good hearing at all (lots of ear drum problems as a kid) so doubt I'd hear something subtle. Just wondering if anyone has knowledge of this error and what would be the best place to look to first.

If unplugging and replugging the cable made it go away then that was the issue. If it happens again, then you could suspect it is maybe a bad hard drive. In addition, you can also run a drive scan to see if it shows up with any errors. |

Thanks Alex. I did run a chkdsk and no errors so I am hoping that it was indeed the connection. I quess I was wondering if that was some sort of tale tell sign or something that a certain part is bad. I did also change to a new sata cable just to feel safe that wasn't the problem.
Thanks again.

80% of the time it is caused by a bad/loose sata cable, the other 20% is a bad controller chip on the hdd.
I would suggest replacing that cable, or you will most likely encounter it again, and possibly encounter data corruption/freezing. Edited by venom - 18 Apr 2010 at 4:10am |

Thanks Venom. I did replace the sata cable just to eliminate that.

@Venom. Is the HDD chip in which you refer on HDD itself or mobo?

^ Right. Usually you can replace the controller board with one from an identical drive if it does die to save your data. |
