    Posted: 24 Apr 2010 at 1:29pm

Hi,

Last summer I was going to order a PC (with lots of help and input from DST4ME. BTW many thanks DST4ME) but other things came up instead.

Now I'm planning to order a Digital Storm HailStorm (Black OPS Edition)

I'm thinking of ordering it with ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard and 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 480 Hydro Copper FTW (I will not run it in SLI).

For LC I like to have it STAGE 6 for video cards and CPU but not for motherboard.

However, I don't want a Radiator on the back.

Before I get to the other things will this be possible?

Thanks

geezerhood

We can all put everything in one loop (top 360 radiator) only if you wish.

Temps won't be high, but, you will get the best temps with a rear radiator.

wouldn't switching the case to the cooler master haf 932 alleviate that problem? as far as i know on that case the radiator does go on the top and dual loop is possible.

The Corsair 800D actually allows a 360 radiator to be properly mounted. It's a better liquid cooling chassi.

i totally agree with you, but if he wanted to keep the dual loop that would be a option if he still wanted the top mounted rad.

since the rad is placed ion the back on a 800d (hailstorm) and the rads create heat... are the rads near any hardware that may cause a concern? just wonderign for my self to see if i should go with the chipset or without. (same LC Stage 6)

Hi Alex,

Thanks. By one loop (top 360 radiator) you mean the radiator will be inside the 800D or outside?

Does it make a big difference if I have one loop instead of two loops in temp?

Also, do you think I will need the LC for motherboard as well? No one still makes it for ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard and I need my PC by first week of June max.

Once I make my order to Sarah the 800D has to get shipped oversea in wooden box to me. Later on (Few months) I will ship it again by container yet again.

I'm concern that during shipment the back radiator can get damage not to mention it looks really ugly.

Do you have any other suggestion?

Thanks

geezerhood

Raif,

I want 800D. I don't like the cooler master haf 932.

ok the packaging in DSO is just is awesome you should watch their packaging video. with all the shipping the wooden box is recommended just to be sure it seems like $100 very well spent.

thing is with usb 3.0 we really don't have true usb 3.0 yet... in a few more months we should. that goes the same for sata 3.

the placements of the rad is on the inside and in the back, as alex was saying they can put it on the top but you will lose a loop in the LC. also the rad (which creates heat) will be right next to your CPU pretty much, and to me that does not seem like a good idea.

with the way the side window is... you should not even see the rad.

btw what kind of resolution are you running that takes 2x 480? also what are your uses? if gaming let us know which games you play...  2x seems like overkill but i wont know for sure unless i know the answers above. depending on your needs maybe only 1 is needed.

if only 1 is needed then you wont need stage 6, you only need stage 6 for the GPU water blocks since the two in sli will draw tremendous heat. with one you can go with stage 4 or even just air cooling.

What do you mean you get better temps with a rear radiator?
IS it 2 radiators total then?
One tripple at top + 1 single at the exhaust area?

Hi Raif,

I have posted a new post in Configuration Discussion.

It pretty much answers all your questions.

And yes I know it's over kill but I can live with it since I'm planning to keep it for sometime.

Regarding USB 3.0 yes you are right but as you said in few months ....

I want the SATA6 for the hard drive.

Thanks

Since I just got my computer with stage 6, I figured I would share some info on the shipping. I just got the regular box so I'm not sure how they do it with the wooden crate. They may just put the cardboard box in the wooden one. For mine with dual loop system in the regular box, they use that form-fitting expanding foam for the entire outside of the case. This actually did a really good job protecting it IMO. Initially I thought I wouldn't care for the rad on the back but I am really beginning to like it now. Images are a little blurry because there was some weird exposure mode activated on the camera and I didn't realize it until after -_-

Hi Zimbawan,

Thanks for the photos. That was kind of you.
It still looks a Little weird to have it on the back.
It just makes the 800D a lot bigger.
But I'm beginning think it's the best way for me.

with the rad in the back like that it is very smart... rads create heat which is not good for your computer. also the rad is positioned by the exhaust so the computer is expelling warm air from inside as well as blowing the hot air from around the rad away as well.

i'm glad to know about the extra packing precautions for the back rad makes me feel safer. what stage 6 option did you get with or without chip set?

geezerhood the real sata 3.0 is not gonna be out till 2011 at some point, the board you have chosen, if you try and use sata 3.0 you will gimp your pci lane's speed. also any mobo can do the same usb 3.0 and sata 3.0 with a pci card that does both, but again its not real sata 3.0.

if youare getting a 980x with stage 3 oc, then for the cpu alone you gonna want a triple rad, then for the two 480s you gonna want a triple rad also, so no matter what you do you gonna need to add a rad to the outside unless you get that case extension that justin posted for ablah, that fits at the bottom of the case and can fit the rads you want.

here it is

and if you look at the bottom of this case that is where its at and how ti would look(not the paint and colors):

Hi DST4ME,

I decided to have the rad on the back so I think now I'm OK. If not please let me know.

Also, can you explain this please,

"if you try and use sata 3.0 you will gimp your pci lane's speed. also any mobo can do the same usb 3.0 and sata 3.0 with a pci card that does both, but again its not real sata 3.0."

Are you telling me by using USB 3.0 with ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard I will slow everything.

Thanks

geezerhood

if you use the sata port as 3.0 (6GB/s) it will slow down the speeds of the pci lanes, taking away from performance of whatever you have in the pci lanes, your gpus, and etc.

you can achive the same thing with this card in any mobo, or cards like this.

30 " minimum clearance to allow for heat dissapation I think. I need to get my pics up.  The Hailstorm is a freaking MONSTER.  I am going to have to figure something out it has eaten my computer desk and I fear it looks at me hungrily when I am late night gaming....Tongue
