I purchased a DS 17 laptop 6 months ago and upgraded to the Blu-Ray DVD player and can't get it to play BR disks.

I have installed the latest VLC, GOM, and Windows Media Players with all the codecs I could find and still can't play a Blu-Ray DVD on the laptop...anyone know why?

Hey man, sorry to hear that. I just recently purchased an x17 with the blu-ray drive, so hopefully this is a minor and confined problem. Maybe we can get Alex to chime in here next week.

What does it do when you insert a BD? Is it not doing anything at all, or giving you an error?

To playback Blu-Ray movies, you will need Blu-Ray movie playback software such as Cyberlink's PowerDVD. The optical drives we sell are Blu-Ray drives which ran read Blu-Ray data discs and movies just like all other system builders, but to watch movies, you will need Blu-Ray playback software. Windows 7 does not natively support Blu-Ray movies.

Digital Storm and I figured it out...as Alex just posted...the blu-ray hardware I ordered as an upgrade to my Digital Storm X17 laptop contains no software to play the DVD's. Apparently, I made a bad assumption that upgrading the DVD drive to Blu-Ray hardware would include the necessary software to watch a movie.

Alex was kind enough to rectify the situation with my laptop and I am now able to play movies in Blu-Ray.

Thank you, Alex!
