Budget:
[Please Type Here]600.00-650.00 Expectations: [Please Type Here]Gaming and everyday use. Single monitor. Usage: [Please Type Here]It needs to play current games like Ghosts, BF 4, Titanfall at pretty high settings. Special Needs: [Please Type Here]none Saved Ticket #: [Please Type Here] Specifications: [Please Type Here]My system is going on 4 years old and it is time to upgrade. I was just going to add a new video card and more ram, but the more I think about it, if I'm going to spend money on those two, I may as well spend some more and do the motherboard and sound card as well. I am going to get the GeForce gtx 760, as well as 12 gigs of ram. I seriously need some help with the motherboard. I am pretty much in the dark when it comes to motherboards. You can see in my signature what motherboard I currently have. I also currently have an overclocked core i7 930 processor, which I am going to keep using. What I need to know is what kind of motherboard to get. I don't know what makes one board better than another. I don't want to spend more than like 200.00 - 250.00 on a board. If I can get one less than that it would be great too, but I don't know if you can get a decent one for less. I also don't know which boards will work with my processor. As well as what kind of ram to get with the board. I also don't know what the best place is to buy one from. I would actually like to buy it from Digital Storm since at least I know I'd be getting the right one. Please help. |

Good idea upgrading to the gtx 760. As far as the motherboard, just keep what you have. You won't find any motherboards with that socket to fit the cpu you want to keep. Newer motherboards are different socket/ pin counts. Not compatable.
Just the video card upgrade will make a big difference. Hope this helps. |

It certainly does help. Is there a big difference in newer motherboards and mine. I mean, would there be a big difference in performance? Again, I am kind of in the dark with motherboards. I would assume the motherboard and processor I have is still pretty decent? I know it was a few years ago. So will the gtx 760 and the 12 gigs of ram, along with the motherboard and processor I have now be a fairly decent set up? |

For gaming, your mobo/cpu is fine for now. Even the 6gb ram is decent. The gtx 760 will be the biggest boost in gaming. If you felt the need for more ram, which I'm not sure you need, go for 3x4gb sticks to fit your tri channel mobo.
Try the 760 first. Might be all you need. Even better, the money you'd spend on the ram, put it to the gtx 770 for even better performance. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Feb 2014 at 4:44pm |

760 or 770 upgrade would be the best option. Also, if you don't already have a SSD, that might also be something to consider as a over system booster and allow in game load times to be less as well... I would look at the RAM upgrade as the 3rd option.

I agree with the others advice. With the 760 you would be unlikely to see much if any performance improvement from a newer motherboard. I think you would be better off spending more on the graphics card then doing an upgrade to anything other than more memory.
If you upgrade the motherboard to a newer one, you will need a new processor and probably go over your budget. That said, with a new motherboard you would get a newer PCI Express (PCIe) version 3.0, SATA 6Gbps, and USB 3.0. The PCIe might add a bit more speed to the graphics card. The SATA would improve the performance of an SSD, since hard drives can't really saturate the 3Gbps you have, except when reading or writing the cache. USB 3.0 would allow faster transfers reading or writing external drives or flash memory that support it. Edited by danjw1 - 22 Feb 2014 at 9:28am |

thanks for all the help. I ordered the gtx 760 and the Corsair Dominator 3x4gb ram.
When I add the ram, am I going to lose the OC of the processor. I though I heard that can be an issue sometimes. |

Shouldn't be any oc issue. That was, sometimes, when all the ram slots were populated. You have six slots but only using three.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Can't post a graphic, but enjoy this day. Edited by bprat22 - 22 Feb 2014 at 3:19pm |
