I have a Vanquish level 4 which I thought I could play a DVD on. I put the disk in and it shows up with the correct title and such in the "This PC" or whatever it's called. But I can't get it to play. Any thoughts? Oh, I am using the computer with the desktop mode or whatever (the Start bar).

Windows 8 does not include DVD playback software. I believe other members have found some low-cost or free solutions, I'll let them chime in to help.

Keen, Look at VLC. I didn't even know about it until the fine folks here had mentioned it. Apparently it's the 'go-to' program for DVD playback in Win8.

Thanks! I'll have to look into that.

I am shocked that 8.1 does not have video play software. Probably a lawyer somewhere is responsible for that.

Thanks again Snaike!

Most welcome, Keen

Gives a really good explanation of why MS took out the DVD capabilities... and yes, you're right... lawyers.  (Probably from that venerable old firm Dewey, Cheatum & Howe.)
