Anyone own this card? I'm just curious considering that on Tiger Direct it only costs 300 dollars and I'm looking to upgrade from my 8800 GTS 320 mb.
Here's the link to tiger direct:

XFX has a pretty darn good rep and without a doubt the 260 will absolutely run a hundred circles around that old 8800 before it can even get out of its own way :)

Sounds like a decent deal on the price too.

Lol "old" thats the only thing I hate about PC gaming....a one year graphics card being considered old lol. I can't wait to run Crysis on all high settings instead of medium.
Its min. requirements are a 500 w power supply I have a 550 watt power supply so I should be good right?
I also have an nvidia 680i LT core 2 quad as a motherboard. Only problem is this card is huge its about 10 and half inches long! My 8800 GTS 320 mb is about 8.5 inches and fits well but I'm afraid my Digital Storm Lite case wouldn't take a 260.

It will be tight but it should be ok as long as you do not have tons of other peripherals.

Personally id work my best to try to get an EVGA person. The 90 day step up is really nice, and i think Nvidia will be working quite hard to get something new out soon that can compete with the 4870X2

Wow Dave and SF thanks for the lighting fast responses! Yea I have to correct myself the 8800 GTS 320 mb is 9 inches, and the XFX is about 10.2 I'll pop open my rig and make sure there's enough room in there.
Also the GTX 260 has "Two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors -or- One 6-pin PCI Express and two 4-pin peripheral supplementary power connectors"
so I think I'll be fine with my 550W ThermalTake power supply but I'll double check that as well.

Well hey, im just saying, EVGA cards tend to not be much more expensive then XFX cards. Lets say nvidia does pull out something amazing out their butt in the next 90 days after this guy buys this card. If he gets XFX hes stuck with the 260. If he has an EVGA he can return it and get the difference on the new card getting a kick butt new card for a lot cheaper then paying for it new.

But hey more power to whatever. On newegg right now the EVGA 260 and the XFX are technically the same price. The EVGA does have a mail in rebate that brings the total to the same, so the cash isnt instant, but hey..im still saying its better to have that option to upgrade later should something totally amazing come out in the next 90 days. But thats my personal opinon...has people have said, i change graphic cards about as often as i change my underwear. (actually i change graphic cards much more!)

Yea I'm probably going to wait for DigitalStorm to reply to an email I set them about this issue. Plus SF is right the price wars just got started and the prices should hit their lowest points soon (probably in August or so).

For these lines of cards, I expect the prices to bottom out by late August. Im not so sure they will reduce the prices on the 280 and 260 after the 4870x2 comes out. The 280 has now dropped to 449.99 from 499.99 today. so thats another 50 bucks.

Yea Digital Storm hasn't replied to the email...odd anyways they haven't even kept up with the price changes. I told them about the price change and said if they didn't change it soon I would be forced to take my business else where. I love DS but saving an extra 100 dollars is enough to make me go somewhere else.

Problem is they probably bought those cards high, and probably cant get the post buy rebates or it takes longer to go though due to bulk order.

Yep, I asked the same thing, but they have to sell the stock they bought at the original price before they can afford to lower it...Makes sense for them, just frustrating for us!

Just curious, if I replace my 8800 ultra with a 260 GTX or 280 GTX, what kind of performance boost can I expect?

Youll see a moderate FPS boost over the 88 with a 280 and aminor one with a 260. If you had a GX2 i could better describe it better since ive never had an ultra, but I had a GX2. Vs the GX2 you will maybe get a slightly lower max FPS, but the average FPS will be MUCH better. The games will run A LOT smoother.

In crysis for example with my GX2 to get non jerky (it wasnt FPS it was microshuttering) i had to keep everything on medium, but with even a single 280 (i was benching each card seperately) i was able to run the same rez at high and a few things on very high, and even then the game felt a lot smoother even if the FPS was supposedly lower.

You might not notice it as much since you didnt have to deal with the microshuttering the GX2 has. And you have a somewhat higher then average memory bus.

I dont regret getting these cards one bit, even though i had to pay full on since DS gave me a zotac GX2 (SUCKS! haha). This is a good card but with a bad rep thanks to the massive opening price they wanted for it. The card does well in areas where benchmarks dont always get. It has great average FPS, which makes any game you play just feel...silky smooth. For such a huge die, mine actually has a great idle temp of 45-50C vs 70-75C with the GX2. It overclocks really well, though this maybe because i got the FTW edition. I currently have my cards at 720/something i cant remember. i think it was 1500 something...and it will near about 90C in vantage and crysis, but thats still within range and thats with the fan not spoolling up yet.

The powersaving is nice on the powerbill as well, but if you have vista aero running, the card will NEVER enter 2D mode, just 3d low power mode, which is a clock of 400/100/100. instead of the 2D 300/100/100 but thats a  minor thing...

I forgot to add, its harder then hell to get a honest benchmark out of the things though using anything futuremark makes. 3DM06 is just way too CPU bound.

And in Vantage with Phys-x on the 280, you get a stupidly high CPU score which is a minor thing in vantage cause they dont make the CPU score matter a lot, but the CPU score is so freaking out there...I think mine is 33,000 or something around there, that it does bump up your score a bunch. I think a single 280 was about 3000 points higher then my GX2 just because of this. Its a false reading IMHO because its not the CPU doing those physic calcuations.

The Vantage GPU score doesn't lie. Ignore the system score and concentrate on the GPU subscore, and you get as accurate a measurement as you are going to with a synthetic. A couple of review sites have already adopted this standard. I think it has flaws since both ATI and nVidia are constantly looking for ways to inflate their scores on these tests, but it's better than nothing, and at least it's a (mostly) level playing field.
