Topic: Help with broken USB port Posted: 19 Aug 2008 at 2:19pm |
Ok, the USB port on my laptop is broken and I have all of my music files and important files on there. It has no cd burner and I have tried to use the cat 5 conection but that doesnt work. Is there a way that I can transfer my files without a) fixing the usb port or b) doing some crazy thing like taking out the hard drive?

not sure what is crazy about taking out the hard drive.
upload your files to a web space then take it from there. |

you don't need to open your laptop to remove your HDD, its a matter of 2 screws. I have never heard of warranty being void due to opening HDD cover.

I checked the warranty and if I open it up, it will cancel it out, and I can't attach any of my files to an e-mail. Alot of them are too big. Also I want my music and videos to be transfered.
Yes I only have one USB port. It was a cheep computer ($500) but it does the job that I want it to do, internet and Starcraft
When Starcraft 2 comes out, then I will upgrade. I plan to buy a rig form DS
Check it out- Ticket Number 166325, I plan to change somethings like the internal lighting and the 3rd stage cooling to a 2nd stage.

Mike who is this laptop from? I like to know what company says if you open the HDD cover your warranty is nulled.
you keep saying open it up, open what up? you don't need to open up the laptop to get to the harddrive. anyways if you don't want to open it up, then like I said upload your files to a webspace. Then take them from there. Edited by DST4ME - 21 Aug 2008 at 1:24am |

Its a Compaq, and I looked into the blueprints of the computer. I have to open it up to get to the USB port to replace it. I was asking some tech guys at Best Buy, and they said that it would cost more to replace the USB port than the computer. I plan to buy another one but I dont know if I want another laptop or a tower.

I'm not talking about fixing the usb port, I'm talking about taking out the HDD.
second if its under warranty then HP should fix it for you. |

I have to open it up in order to get the HDD. And I mean that I have to pretty much disassemble it.

OK but there is no warranty to worry about so what is the big deal, if that is what you have to do then thats what you have to do.
Other then that, like I said you can upload the drive contents to a webspace. |
