    Posted: 08 Nov 2009 at 1:44pm
Greetings,

Just received my DS rig, (pics and review to follow once I resolve some issues) but I am unable to activate Hardware Assisted Virtualization in the bios.

I am running Windows 7 ultimate (because of the virtual XP mode).  This feature requires Hardware assisted Virtualization to be enabled.

According to some online forms I've read, this feature should be located in the Advanced Bios Settings/CPU Features setting.  I do not have that menu item in this version of the bios.

Any suggestions before giving DS a call tomorrow?

Thanks in advance guys. Ouch

Thanks jimbo.  Yes I've checked this out. and I believe my computer supports VT;  I do know the processor supports VT, I'm not sure why I can't turn it on in the bios though. Do I need a bios update...am I simple inept and missing the place to turn it on on the bios??Big%20smile

Any other takers?

In the BIOS, go to Frequency & Voltage Control, CPU Configuration, set Virtualization to Enabled.

hemi392-

My understanding is this - most windows OS have a compatibility mode which in theory allows you to run programs not designed to run on a PCs current OS in an earlier OS.  However, they are not always fully successful especially for  industry specific software – I have specifically heard of issues with property management, database management, and school/education applications going from XP to Vista. And so Windows 7 actually creates a virtual terminal (VT) on your computer in XP.  It downloads a complete copy of XP and creates a computer within your computer.

How well does it work...not sure yet...I’ll let you know
