So I have had my Assassin almost 2 days, and I am already looking and doing my first LC setup with it.
Not looking to swap cases, I like this one :) Initial thoughts are to go with a single loop with my GTX 560 OC and i5-2500K in it, but buy the "extras" to make going to a dual loop when I add a second 570 later a simple ordeal. So the res I am looking at is a dual res, initially I will hook the pumps up in serial and just bridge between the 2 sides. (or failing that, perhaps just go with a single pump and use one side, still not sure). Hardest part is going to be the rads i think. I am thinking a single 120.3 sitting on top of the 180mm fans at the bottom. Anything think of a better place to mount a 120.2 or 120.3 on this case? Pic of what I am thinking.
i know some of you guys, and especially the DSO guys have done this many times before, so I am open to advice. (dual pumps are for redundency - not sure if dual 655 is too much and I should go for dual 355?) biggest question is on rad placement, is push with the 180's going to be ok?.. it will technically be moving "warm' air into the case, but ultimately I am not sure that will affect things much? |

Push with the 180s I believe is fine; if you have the RV02-E and thus have AP181 fans (check for a circular turbine-ish grill over your 180mms. If it's just a standard 4-branch grill, those aren't AP181s), then I'd also advise finding a way to space the radiator away from the fans a bit. The cool thing about the Air Penetrator line of fans is that by setting up a grill in that fashion, it tunnels up the air; however, from test videos, I believe there's about a 0.5" inch spin up distance from the fans for the tunnel to completely form. My AP121 seems to do that, and with proper distance the airflow is a lot more concentrated, so I think spacing the radiators may help with cooling.
If you don't have the AP181s though, I'd advise to just keep the radiators as close as possible to your fans, because otherwise they kick up air in all directions. Edited by ablahblah - 30 Apr 2011 at 5:40pm |

I'm actually considering going a different way and building the rads, pump and res external and just route it in through the top. From reading various forums, I'll need a 120.3 / 360 to cool what I have now effectively and then add a second 360 when I go SLI cards. makes sense to set it up external with the koolance quick disconnect connectors... also means I wont have to mess with the lovely inside of this case much.

That's possible too, build yourself a radbox. Don't need one to go dual 360s though, you can just use some radiator mounting brackets, stick it behind the case like DS does, and route it in through a PCI pass-through.
Why does it make more sense though? It'll save space to confine it inside the case, and you'll need to add a second PCI pass-through bracket eventually when you add the second loop anyways. You need one inlet/outlet for each loop, obviously. Building a radbox may likely cost more. Edited by ablahblah - 30 Apr 2011 at 10:22pm |

Koolance does not have the best parts, for res go with xspc or swiftech or bitspower IMO, for each loop use one 355.
for cpu wb IMO heatkiller or swiftech xt. quick disconnect I have and love, makes everything much easier IMHO, as long as they don't leak. if you put the rad where you have it in the pic, at the bottom, you will raise your case temp alot., cause now your fans will be pushing hot air from the rad into the case. |

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought too DST, i think it'll just blow hot air in the case.
so new plan, single loop (even with the dual cards) and an external Rad box. quick connects in the PCI area and quick connects on the rad box. Going to go with the Danger Den box -- http://www.frozencpu.com/products/image/12174/cas-416.jpg/cas-416/Danger_Den_External_3_x_360_Radiator_Liquid_Cooling_Housing_Enclosure_CAS-EX10-2.html?id=7VjxqNSW Setup very much like it is there (except black tubing/fittings).. dual 360 rads, dual pumps. |
