i have a question i play games on 1 monitor and

hardly ever past 1280x1024 is 2 video cards

necessary? but i dont want to sacifice graphics . is 2

cards overkill? and if so would 1 8800 gts 512mb card enough? i dont want a 8800 gtx or ultra since they are not making them. that way if i wanted to upgrade the 8800gts 512 would be around if hope

For your rez, yes 2 video cards would be overkill. SLI is more for rezs around 16xxX12xx and up.
 
Youd be much better off either spending the SLI money on one super card, or just saving the money all together and getting a normal card. The 8800 GTS is a solid card, it should service your needs for quite a while
