so, problems with backwards compatibility with dp 1.3/1.4  Pascal cards, or just a driver tweak needed on the Vive's end of things?

Not sure if Oculus is having this issue or not, if not then one would assume its with vive.

I used to be a big HTC fan in phones but past 3 or 4 years they have done down the toilet as far as quality adn customer service so it was bye bye HTC. Their stock had the same idea.
