so before I post pictures, I am trying to find the connector for the 932 side fan, but I don't see any. the only possible power i can connect it to is the 3pin on the mother board. would this work?

one on the left reads "Jsys_fan", right reads"Jcha_fan"

I guess it's the chassis one?

--------

new problem with monitor:

I 'm running on dual 22", one is Asus the other is Dell.

I haven't experienced much problem with Dell, but when I set Asus to 1680x1050 at 60Hz, the whole screen start to shake constantly. this problem does not appear when running at different resolution and frequency.

need some help.

(ATI 5870 driver 9.11)

----------

12/22 update

1.I changed my 5970 to a 5870 due to the lack of the first cards on Dec 10th. and have not received the difference back in my bank account

2.I didn't choose the XFX 5870 and I thought they are all the same, but the one I received is vaporX, and it looks very different from the other designs.

Anyone know much about this card?

thanks

You can plug the fan into either header.

In regards to the monitor situation, I honestly have no clue. I would try swapping the two on the DVI ports on the video card.

Try updating to 9.12 from ati.amd.com.  Uninstall the old drivers first or you will run into problems.

I had the same problem with dual monitors and the way I fix my problem was to move one monitor an inch or two from the other and the shaking and waving stopped. Not sure why but there you go.

@ntourniquetn,

The VaporX has their own effective cooler design. It's branding by Sapphire for their 5870.

I would also recommend staying in touch with our phone staff directly for a status on your credit for the downgrade.

it's been werid. I didn't do anything to the monitors, but the problem seems to happen randomly to either one at different times. sometimes it's a periodic twitch like the screen jumps once every now and then

This is a known issue if you search a bit on google.  I am currently experiencing the same screen twitch/flicker with my 5870.

The cause is that the 2D clocks for the cards are set too low.  So far I haven't found a way to change them and ATI hasn't fixed crap yet.

I got the ATI Clock GPU tool or whatever it's called and the options to set the 2d and 3d clock were disabled.  I could set the 3d clock via the box on the top though.

lol noob.... J/K
if you can write a modified BIOS, or the easy way

Go to CCC → Options → Profiles → Profiles Manager

Create a new profile and click Save. Then close that window and go this directory:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles

Open the file with Notepad and add this to it:

<Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="40000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="60000" />
<Property name="Want_2" value="85000" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="120000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="120000" />
<Property name="Want_2" value="120000" />
</Feature>

also you can force 3d clocks in gpu clock tool, better yet use MSI afterburner...make sure you have the 9.12 hotfix, also ATI released an official new BIOS for reference cards.

i might not have time to fix those things.
but one thing i can say is that the fan on vaporx is huge. and my motherboard runs at 20-25 idle , 35-40 on load.

the whole thing is very very quiet

--------

the flickering seems to happen only when I'm working on desktop.

it does not happen during Crysis or Dragon age.

also for some reason I feel my rhino and cs4 runs slower than they should.

how much system ram are you letting PS use?
if you go to preferences you can change the amount of system RAM it uses.
