Wow.

My new $4,350.00 build had $550.00 taxes added. Jeez, is that normal?

If you're in California, DS has an obligation to collect 9.13%. Which would be $397.16 on a $4350 purchase. I would suspect that total of $550 would be "Shipping, Handling and Taxes". Even so, call DS Sales to get a breakdown of the charges if it really concerns you. I’m certain Alex would want you to be pleased with your purchase with no questions like this looming over it.

I’m not speaking for DS and this is just off the top of my head, but if this is an issue, just give them a call and get answers.

I live in Tennessee. The sales tax here is 7%. My invoice shows $ 0.00 for shipping. They are running free 3-day air shipping on all orders at the moment.

That is strange. Still, contact them and get answers on why it is 12.5%. I will admit this is way out of my circle of knowledge and now I'm curious as well.

You'll also need to include the locality tax with your 7% rate. However even doing that wouldn't bring you up to 12.5%. I'd just call DS and ask them to explain the tax to you. Worst case scenario you figure out how they calculated that rate, best case scenario you find out the system configured your rate incorrectly and you get some money back.

So I called and spoke to someone. He told me he basically had no way of knowing how it was calculated.

I'm excited for my new build, and I'm not complaining. I can say that this would be the highest tax rate I've ever payed on a purchase, and I would seriously have to consider that regarding future purchases.

I think it's about time you got Alex involved. As one of the "head cooks and chief bottle-washers" (as my grandpa used to say) I am certain that he would be able to supply answers. I am very glad to see that this doesn't dampen your excitement for the new machine but I do understand why it would be a concern going forward.
