120Hz with Intel integrated graphics?

Can I get 120Hz on a monitor (Asus VG24QE) from Intel integrated graphics CPU (HD 4600)?
It will be connected to DisplayPort on the mobo.

Your refresh rate (60hz / 120hz) is dependent on your monitor not gpu/vga.

Then you can do that refresh rate, but if you are looking at gaming, from the benches I have seen the gaming performance is very low. I'm talking about 15 - 20 fps at low res of 1600 x 1200

no, not interested in gaming, but I want to be sure that I don't need a discreet card for 120Hz

Not sure what you mean "all within the monitor". I know for a fact that it wouldn't work via HDMI, regardless of the graphics card.

I just need to confirm that it will work via DisplayPort.

The "Refresh Rate" is a marketing term to describe the speed at which the monitor paints the image. Starting at the top of the monitor are luminescent dots which are painted from top to bottom. The rate refers to how fast it repaints the screens image. The GPU has nothing to do with it. Your card may have a Display Port/ Mini display port output. It sounds like you want a monitor that can use this type of plug. Cool

I'm asking if the integrated graphics will be able to output 120 frames per second via DisplayPort, so I can see them on my 120Hz monitor.

Exactly as subxero said.     My understanding is that regardless of the signal sent to the monitor., the 120hz monitor will convert it to 120hz, internally.   Whether that is optimal for all applications I really can't say.   

Just saw your post..... I believe and could be wrong that hdmi does not and displayport does carry 120hz.    Either way, the monitor displays 120hz if selected.

hdmi 1.4a (High Speed HDMI Cable) does support 3d which means it supports higher refresh rate.

just make sure you get a hdmi 1.4a cable(High Speed HDMI Cable).


From what I understand, true 120Hz is sent to the monitor, false 120Hz like TVs are 60fps converted by the TV to be 120Hz

I see the p4600 listed as supporting 3D so it should be sending the frame rate you want.

The display port you can connect to or what display port you have depends on the mobo, its the mobo that will supply the display port.
