I was planning on upgrading my GTX 470 to something more powerful. I only use a 22inch monitor due to space restrictions(1680x1050 resolution), and want to see good frames on most games out there. I've been debating between 570 SLI and the GTX 590 and some consideration to the 580. Any one got some advice?

Well first of all avoid the 590 its a bad idea.

also at your res you wont' notice the difference between 570/580/590.

last at your res sli 570/580 or a 590 would pretty much be pure waste, as you won't notice the difference, and as rice pointed out, at your res you won't notice the difference between a 470 and a 570/580/590 either.

save your money and upgrade in a year or two.

Let me add my 2 cents here:

Here is my situation:

I use a 22" LG TN panel monitor (yes I know DST just gagged when he read this...).  I had a HD 5850 1 gb basic ATI card and on WoW got 60 fps on settings that were a mix of HIGH and ULTRA.  The weird AA numbers were 2 and 8 in teh settings.

Rift was a bit more punishing, and sat at like 45 fps most of the time as an average, but would go as low as 20 depending on what was going on, and up to 60+ when alone in the middle of no-where.

My old card went kaput, so I bought a 6970.  Basically I want to say the 6970 is like the 570 or 570.5-but not quite the 580-but may beat it  depending on...you get the point.

So this was the result:

WoW settings now just about all ULTRA, AA things are 4 and 16, and the FPS is...60, just like before.  The screen really doesn't look any better as it was awesome before so...maybe I can see some smoother edges and gear details, or see just a little bit farther in the distance......big whoop.

Rift gets a more noticeable increase and average more like 55 or so fps, but witha huge rift raid...you'll dip to the 30's with settings moved close to maxed.  they were just about maxed before so...no real change there.

Overall:

Unless your card has died, especially if you are staying at the 22" monitor and 1680X1050 res, you might as well save the cash and wait until Q1 2012 or so and buy the 6XX or 7XXX series of video cards.

If you plan on moving up in resolution and monitor size...well then maybe a new discussion needs to happen.

If the cash is burning a hole in your pocket that much, buy a SSD as you will see a better increase in system performance in my opinion, or send it to me.....Evil

hope this helps.
