Well two years after getting my DS Assasin Im getting my first issues that I think are video card related. I started having problems loading windows and the day always started with a crash. I would restart to safe mode, shut down, and usually be able to restar windows. On my taskbar I'd get a message about video drivers not loading right. So I upped from NVidea 3.6xx to the new 3.10xx and the problem is just as bad. Now I just installed the last good working version, I thinking 3.1xx.
The card is a 580 GTX and the system has been so trouble free Im afraid I lost all my fix it skills. I get a blue screen dump screen but it does not allow me to cut and paste. Im hopeing for some ideas here and would be grateful for any help. I have no problem spending cash for a new card but would like to get to the root to the problem first. Im on vacation right now and the last thing I need is computer problems. :.(. Thank you...........Rich |

Hi Rich46yo,,,, It does sound like it could be the 580. Just to make sure, i would download WhoCrashed and after the next incident look at the dump files in WhoCrashed. The first few lines will sometimes point to the driver, exe, etc that could be the problem.
If your getting artifacts, lines on the screen its usually a sign of a bad card. If not, then conflicts, ram, oc, etc can cause the issues. Go to Device manager and check for conflicts.. usually a yellow ' ! " exclamation point. Do a System Restore to a point before the issues if you can to eliminate any updates, downloads that could be causing the issue. Reseat your ram sticks and check one at a time. And reseat the card. You might get lucky. Check all connections to mobo, card, etc. You could go to Bios and load default profile to get rid of overclocks. You can always restore it later. Call DS today if you can. They'll help troubleshoot the problem and help with RMA if its the card and DS parts warranty is up. Good Luck. Could be lots of things. Edited by bprat22 - 28 Dec 2012 at 8:29am |

Thanks for the help. I had done all those things except reseat the card cause I had never moved the puter. After reseating the card Ive gone two days without issue. So I may indeed "get lucky". Thanks again.
