Hey guys,

I have been lurking around this site and have finally decided to purchase a computer. The forum is extremely helpful so I hope someone can guide me in the direct direction.

  1. Budget: 2200-2300
  2. Usage: Computer will primarily be used for gaming. It will be connected to a 24" monitor at 1920x1680. Games are like: GW2, WOW, D3, SC2

The ODE machines appear to have a good reputation with them. Since my budget is around the ODE3, is that the best machine to suit my needs? Or is it better to customize one from ground up.

*The reason I did not consider the ODE4 is I believe that SLI does not work well with the games that I play. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for all the help!

Hey! Thanks for joining the forums.

You are making the right decision going with Digital Storm.

Now -- lets get started.

ODE. Awesome machines. The real question is this: "Is there anything about the ODE you do not like?"

They are solid and dependable machines, they are also some of the highest professorially rated machines around.

SLI -- Yes and No. I play every game you listed religiously except GW2 which I've only played a little. GW2 runs fine from my experience with SLI (I have dual 690s)

WoW - I hit 221FPS in main cities in SLI, but there is an Nvidia custom profile for WoW that automatically works when you launch the game, it may perform better than SLI. It be clear. 221FPS in SLI/64bit mode.

Diablo 3 - This game isn't very intensive, it'll work with SLI but I think you'd never notice the difference between SLI and not.

SC2 - I double my performance in this title under SLI, so much that I actually improve my response times.

Final thoughts: YMMV. (Your mileage may vary) Games are really stubborn creatures -- especially since all of those titles change all of the time in relation to code.

Blizzard and Nvidia have a good working relationship which is a good thing. GW2 has a solid DEV team.

For what you play, SLI isn't needed. However, SLI will assist you in the future as it is becoming more and more popular. A single card at your resolution would kick as much digital behind as SLI would in my opinion. I'm not expert, just going by my experiences.

Also -- just so you know. With 2300 dollars, Digital Storm would create you a machine that will decimate video games. It'll run like a 5k machine for sure.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Xii

Xii,

Thanks for your help. It was extremely helpful to hear from someone that plays the same games on a SLI machine.

It appears that SLI is overkill for my current needs. I guess I will do a little more research and see if I should get SLI for the future.

Thanks. It is really encouraging to see people recommend Digital Storm with confidence.

You have to understand that just because you wouldn't know the difference doesn't mean that its bad. For example, you wouldn't know the difference in the above example because a single 670 really is a great card. Its designed to be past current games. At least the ones listed above.
