    Posted: 17 Jan 2010 at 9:02pm
Greetings all. I'm about a month or so away from pulling the trigger here for my new rig. I want to get a nice 24" LCD with a budget of around $350 bucks. Currently i have a dell ultrasharp 19" 1905fp ips (1280x1024)  thats about 5 years old.  However, moving onto bigger and better things, i want a monitor that has low input lag because i play mostly FPS. I have 2 that i'm torn between. Would love to feedback and/or suggestions if yous will. Currently these are the 2 i'm looking at:

24" Dell G2410 (1920x1080) ($300)

24" Samsung 2433bw (1920x1200) ($300)

Yes i know these are TN panels, but higher ips models tend to have bigger input lag (which is what i want to get a low as possible without too much sacarfice of quaity) and are way out of my price range.

Any suggestions??

quality is exactly what is sacrificed in a tn panel, $200 more and you can get the Dell UltraSharp U2410, but if that is not in your budget then I like the 1900 x 1200 res personally.

I was also thinking about acer's g24 as well.

Now if i had the extra $$, i would get the ultrasharp but i am mostly an FPS fella so i'll gladly take a hit on visuals to get less input lag.

Have Windows 7? Try the Acer T230H.

The T230H has all the contrast-ratio extremes the G24 has, 2ms response time, and 1920x1080 res. It's a 23-inch though. If you really need a 24-inch, look at the Acer D240H. It's the current-gen version of the G24 (i.e. more massive contrast ratio [80,000>50,000]).

The T230H is a bit smaller than the D240H, but all specs are the same besides one fact. The T230H has a touchscreen capability :D

I will be getting win7 in the next month or so when i purchase the new rig.

I will check out that D240H this evening after i come home from work. Thanks for that and i will add that touching a screen is criminal. At least woo it, caress and smother it with love and affection. haha i kid i kid. I'll check these out, thanks :)

No no.. Your misunderstanding me.. Its not the picture quality or fps of a screen.. Its something called input lag.

For example.. You click a button and afterwards your toon shoots a lazer. On a CRT, there is virtually no input lag at all. That means as soon as you push a button, you "see" your action without hesitation. On these lcd's, you have input lag.. So if i press a button, you will see a slight delay of around 1-2 frames. Its not much, but it is definatly noticeable especially on ips monitors like the dell ultrasharp's. Sure it looks sexy, but if im 1v1 in say call of duty and i fire at you and you do the same. If you have a crt and i have an lcd with bad input lag, you're going to shoot first because you can "see" me first so to speak.

Let me know if i'm making sense to you or anyone else.  :)

I never noticed it to be that much of a difference to be honest.

also you are using a crt as an example which has the lowest lag, these days you are pining lcd to lcd so the lag time is not that different.
