Hey guys, could use some advice on monitor size. I never spent much time checking them out, just went with my 27’ and love it.
When my new Lumos comes in, my 4 year old Lumos goes yo my son. I like 27’ and he likes 32’. Any downside to 32’, non curved. Any distortion or playing in the middle of the screen with side borders. It’ll be a 1440p with g-sync or Free sync with g-sync compatibility. Don’t want to spend $600 like my 27’. Rtx 3070 will be the card. Thanks.

I bought a 32" 4k Asus Monitor to go with my Aventum X. I'm more interested in the visuals than refresh rate since I'm not big into FPS games.

Hi bk…thanks. Any distortion being a wider ratio ? Any experience with 1440p in a 27’ or so to compare? I have a 1440p 27’ that looks great and I’m wondering if a 4 k would be too small a print for easy reading. My son is looking for the best distance rendering for games like COD, and like you said, visuals over crazy fps.

I'm not sure yet my computer is on a Semi headed this way from California and due here next Tuesday. I'll let you know when I get it. I bought the PG32UQX from Asus which had a lot of good reviews so I took a chance. On a side note does anyone know why the Aventum X weighs 166 lbs? |

Congrats on your new Aventum. It’s weighs a lot because it’s a big ass computer. Lol
If you’ve ever had a pc from Dell, HP etc , this simply dwarfs it. Hope you have someone to help bring it in the house and set it up. Thanks for the monitor model #. Gonna check it out now. Have fun.

My Velox weighed 65 pounds and was heck to get out of the box by myself. I imagine some of the Aventum weight is the crate and intense packing material to keep it safe on its way to you.
We are all looking forward to the open boxing pictures when it arrives! Edited by Onkel_Ken - 17 Feb 2022 at 12:59pm |

As far as I know the Aventum just comes in a box but on a skid but from what I understand the box is pretty heavy duty. A of now I'm just hoping it gets to my desk top safely considering the trip from Digital Storm to here is 2200 miles and then I have to get it up the stairs and in the house and on to the desk. |

I'm a huge fan of large monitors. For many years I had a 30" Apple Cinema Display. It was a flat display, and I absolutely loved it. However, it wasn't really meant for gaming.
Later I upgraded to an Acer Predator 34" curved ultra-wide display. That was my first ultra-wide monitor, and it was a game changer. Having an ultra-wide display of that size is so immersive for gaming. Now I have an LG 38" curved ultra-wide display. It's even better than the Acer Predator 34. It has a similar width, but more vertical screen space. In short, I would recommend getting the largest monitor that your desk space and budget will allow. So far I've never regretted getting a huge monitor. That being said, there are ultra-wide monitors that are even larger than 38". So far I haven't upgraded, because there are no IPS displays larger than 38". I always prefer IPS displays. Plus, I'm not sure my desk could handle a larger monitor. It would start to interfere with my speaker placement. I've never had a 32" monitor (the size that you mentioned). However, I think you would be fine with a flat 32" monitor. My gut feeling says that a curved display isn't really needed until you move up to 34" or larger. After all, my 30" Apple Cinema Display was flat, and I never felt the need for it to be curved. However, I did appreciate the curve with my 34" Acer monitor. Best of luck with your decision. |

Hmmm, I might have to try one of those monster (+34") curved monitors. (of course 4K!, ) ![]() @bkjolly: the Aventum is huge!!! AND heavy by itself! It has very large and many radiators and an extraordinary number of fans. It comes strapped to a pallet which you will have to dispose or store.

As far as I know there aren't any 4K ultra-wide monitors. For example, most 34" ultra-wide monitors are 3440 x 1440. The 38" ones are 3840 x 1600. Meanwhile most 4K monitors are 3840 x 2160. I think this probably happens because DisplayPort 1.4 wouldn't be able to handle the bandwidth of an ultra-wide monitor that used higher pixel density. You can think of an ultra-wide monitor as a 27" display that has extra pixels added to the left and right sides. It has the same pixel density as a non-4K 27" display. I'm using an RTX 3090 to drive mine. However, that's overkill. I think a 3080 Ti would be perfect, and a 3080 wouldn't be bad. Edited by JamesAstro - 19 Feb 2022 at 4:07pm |

That's a good compromise. ![]() I imagine that with the new gpus doing away with the need for sli and talking about 8K, the industry will start filling the need for large/wide screen monitors in 4K. I have a PG27UQ and a PG279 and whereas the 2K is all you really need, the 4K is real nice on old eyes!

Hey hose……isn’t 4k tough on the eyes with smaller text. Especially adventure gaming with lots of dialogue. Some games aren’t so great at allowing font size adjustment.

OOps, ran out of coffee and posted empty. The print is small and fine ( I find I don't have to squint sometimes as in the 2K monitor and I don't need reading glasses) and it could be an issue but everything else is super clear. If you do any spreadsheet work, you have way more room for columns in the 4K. I go to bed early and get up way early. Its Sunday for me already. ![]() Taking a break from gaming. Getting beat a lot! lol

Bless computers! I remember aiming my joystick at a TV screen and blowing off chunks of the bad guy almost 1/4 inch square. That was a pixel on Atari.
What a ride.

I blew big money on a Sony 3D TV and everybody stopped supporting them for the most part. I would be afraid to put out big bucks on a 8K system to tell the truth.
I am still trying to decide if I want a cheap 60hz 4K monitor or a high quality 1440 with a better refresh rate. But it is hard not to buy a 4K when your system RTX3080 will support it. I am still running my old 1920x1280 60hz HP w2408h. I am thinking about buying a new decent monitor for my birthday in June. Don't need big and the 24 inch HP is just about the right size for my desk. I monitor these threads trying to learn from others on what they are picking up. 1440 may be a sweet spot? But I know I will have to get 4K or I will regret it for some reason.

@Onkel_Ken: Experiments have shown consistently that better visual experience is related more to frames per second than to pixel density. IMHO, a 24-27" 1440p that will assuredly deliver very high frames from a 3080 is going to be your best bang-for-buck. Pixel count is 78% more than a 1080p. When you cram that into a 24" monitor, I don't see how 4K running slower would be an enhancement worth the money.
I also game on a 1080p that's 1200 pixels high. (I believe the w2480h is also 1200 high.) I love the extra height, the aspect ratio is 16:10. To get a similar screen feel in a 1440, I'm guessing I should step up to a 27", because the aspect ratio in a (non-widescreen) monitor has standardized at 16:9. There are a few 16:10s available (2560X1600 pixels), but they are considered professional models, cost more to make, and more to buy. The larger 27" panel would go against the feeling I'm sure I would have that my screen just shrunk! So I think you might consider that as well.

@Cretae,
I must have had 1080 on my mind. I like my 1920x1200 resolution. I think I agree with you about 1440 being a good choice for a moderate size monitor. Even at 1920x1200 running a serious game like Red Dead Redemption II at Ultra settings will give the 3080 a workout. I imagine trying 4K would always be a challenge trying to run things at Ultra settings on AAA graphic intense games. 1440 might just be the sweet spot I am looking for. Thank you for your input.

Well, my son needs a monitor to go with my older Lumos. I get the new Lumos and my older 27” 1440p. He’s leaning towards a 32’ 1440p, less pixel density but bigger real estate but still great fps. Maybe soon I can compare, 1st hand, which is better gaming.
Thanks to everyone.
