any idea when the gtx280 will be unavailable to buy. I want tobuy anothr one but im waiting for the prices to level out. Seems like they are all going down towards 300$ right now. I'm guessing it probably wont get any cheaper than 300$ what do you guys think.

Same here DST4ME... I was ready to order my new DSO system back before the i7 came out (wisely decided to wait)... then I decided to wait to see how i7 reviews looked... then I figured it was close enough to the 295 GTX release date to wait... Tomorrow is ordering day

looks like the 4870x2 is dropping its price since the gtx295 release they can be found for as cheap as 400$ Also the gtx285 has been added to the DS configurater.

My rig was suppose to go out yesterday, but i called ds and had them take the gtx 260 (216s) out and put in 2 new 285's. Should ship this tues now via fedex..
Being the owner of a 7950 gx2, Nvidia's x2 models have left a bitter taste for anything x2.
Hopefully the 285's don't disappoint me...Benchmark wise there suppose to be like twenty something percent better then the 260 (216).
My only gripe is that the cards they have are all zotac 285s, kinda wanted evga for the stepup program.
However Eric reassured me that there was little to no difference besides the stepup program. (Any thoughts/past experiences with Zotac?)

Hmm... had problems with the 7950gx2 eh? Been using one for the last couple years myself and haven't had any issues... other than my first one dying due to a video memory problem .
I typically stay away from new video cards for at least a while after they're released but jumped right in with two 295gtx this time...
Bit nervous about them being a new release... and about quad SLI.. but with luck it won't be my first x2.. er.. x4.. experience that leaves a bad taste in my mouth...
Wish I had experience with Zotac cards so I could help you out... they don't have the stepup but I'm sure they'll be solid... plus you always have DSO to back you up should something go wrong

you can request evga.
but Eric was right there is not much of a difference, you have to remember that all of these cards have the same core, shader, memory, the cards themselves are identical, but each company puts them together themselves and then OCs them or sends them stock. at the end if you have a life time warranty, there is no difference between each card. |

I requested the 285 evga, but they didn't have any of them in stock and i really didn't want to wait for the evga ones to come in.
DST4ME I don't know Zotacs warrantly policy, I checked there website but you have to send them an email with your serial numbers and such to extend the warranty or to even get one.
I dunno tbh Ive always had evga cards.. So going with a new brand is scary! Hold me
Stepup program is nice, but then again i plan on having my cards for atleast 4-5months and by then you can't step up anyways. Edited by Dsnewb210 - 09 Jan 2009 at 9:05pm |

So is the GTX295 supposed to be the 4870x2 killer? Or just something to match it on a 1v1 duke out.
Ill stick with my 3870x2 im afraid that my cpu will bottleneck anything better. LOL!

no it wont kill the 4870x2 the cards are very competitive to one another. If nvidia wanted to kill the 4870x2 they would have put out a 280x2 or 285x2 ecspecially since you can get a 4870x2 for up to a 100$ cheaper on new egg. I personally would go with the gtx285 I like having a single card with a lot of power. What i'm wondering is will 3 gtx285's beat 2 gtx295's

Well I just talked to James and it looks like the only 295GTX they have right now are also Zotec so it looks like I'll be going that route instead of EVGA... no stepup but really... I doubt I would have used it on my 295's. I'm sure they'll be quality cards and now I'll be able to give feedback on the brand as well.

Right on man, Eric informed me that if there was any problem with the grapics card that DS would take care of it in the 3 year period.
He also made note that you can go to zotac's website and extend that warranty by 2 years.
I feel that the stepup program is overated big time.. If you know that you will be keeping the cards longer then 90 days there really isn't even a point. Edited by Dsnewb210 - 13 Jan 2009 at 5:34pm |

Hi
I have two Zotac 9800gtx+s in sli (since August) and they have performed really well. I also have the Zotac 780i mother board. It also has run well and strong since I first fired up my rig. I run mostly at stock, but have significantly overclocked the cpu (q9450) and gpus and they have run stable and reasonably cool.
Zotac is still not well known in the US, but from my experience produces a quality product.
