Is one GTX 480 enough to run any game on max settings, including taxing ones like Crysis, or will two be necessary to achieve this?

At 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution a single GTX 480 is enough to run any game on max settings at high FPS except a few unusually unoptimized and hard to run games. Unfortunately Crysis is one of these, as well as Metro 2033 and STALKER: Clear Sky. But if you turn down or off the AA settings on those games then they will run great on a single 480.

one GTX480 is enough to run any game on highest settings from what i have seen on the reviews but you wont have 60fps+ on the newest and most demanding games

Edit: as dragon said turn down the AA settings and you will be fine

yea, "max" settings and the max settings that you will see any visual difference at are not the same thing, but it will work for the 2nd desciption

I started off with a single 480 on my system (running at 1680x1050). As Crysis and Metro 2033 were two of the games I was most interested in, I wasn't happy with the performance I was getting at max settings, even at my relatively low resolution (frame rates in the low 30's in Crysis, into the 20's with Metro).
They ran great with AA off but I wanted to be able to truly max them out (and plan on upgrading to a higher resolution soon) so I picked up a second 480.

Basically, if you absolutely positively must max out all settings on all current and upcoming games, get 2 in SLI. If you don't mind dropping a couple of settings down a bit, 1 will be plenty.

i dont mean that they are coming out soon, i mean that the money youll spend on the 2nd 480 will make your system last longer, but probably not longer then buying the next new card later on.. either way is good
