Hey Folks,
I've been gaming with a 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600 for the last few years. It's an awesome gaming experience most of the time. However, there are a handful of games that just don't perform well at that resolution. Once I turn on full quality, and enable 4x AA, there are times when even my 3x SLI system can't produce a good framerate. When that happens I typically reduce the resolution to 1920 x 1200. That fixes the performance problem. However, it makes the display a little blurry (if I scale up the image to fit the monitor), or it draws a large black border around the image (if I don't scale). This got me thinking: Maybe it would be better to have a 27" monitor at 1920 x 1080. That would give me the performance that I crave, and it would almost be as large as a 30" monitor. In fact, maybe I could even find a 32" display at 1920 x 1080. Obviously the pixel density will be lower, but maybe it won't matter for gaming. So my question is this: Does a 27" monitor with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 look just about as good as a 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600? Has anyone made this kind of change to their system? If so, what are your thoughts? By the way, this monitor will only be used for gaming. Thanks for your opinions, James |

Higher the res, the better the image quality, so at 2560 x 1600 res you are getting a much better pic then lower res. your tri sli does not have enough ram to run certain games at high res, lower the aa instead.

Yeah, the higher res display will certainly look better. I'm just wondering if it would be worth lowering the resolution to increase the framerate.

have you tried lowering the aa first to see how they perform?
obviously if the game is not enjoyable then you need to reduce the settings for those games only. Edited by DST4ME - 05 Sep 2011 at 9:34pm |

I think I just need 4x SLI like you have. That might solve my problem.
