Hi all,

First-time poster, long-time lurkerNinja. I am posting here today for two reasons.

1- I have a 3090 FE in my build, and I was wondering if there are any news regarding these specific cards and also water coolers. I have read where the 30 series were expected around this time, but the wait may be possibly due to the water coolers. If anyone knows anything and they'd like to share it would be greatly appreciated!

ps: here is the timeline:
September 6, 2020 - placed the order.
September 7, 2020 - received e-mail regarding transaction.
September 14, 2020 - Stage 2.
September 15, 2020 - Stage 3.
September 16, 2020 - Stage 4.

2- attached below is my build configuration. The more i look at it, the more I feel i should get this motherboard instead: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XII HERO and switch the power supply unit to 1200W Silverstone / EVGA / Thermaltake. I am worried the PSU may not be enough or that the motherboard will fail ?

Any other recommendations / or help regarding the build will be greatly appreciated - since I am waiting for the 3090 FE and / or cooler i might as well get your opinions on possible changes for the build. Thanks!

Congratulations. Awesome
I am not a good configurator but your Storage Set is off. You really need the 970 PRO as Storage Set 1 where the OS resides. The interface of the 970 is NVMe and what you have is SATA. Major speed difference.

The hardline Hydrolux is very cool looking but is hard to work around and install future upgrades. Do order or find out what coolant was used for future refills. You cannot mix coolants and you WILL be refilling.

I don't know about mobos, other members will chime in on your choice. The Asus TUF mobos are very good.

Enjoy. Smile

Hey Hoserator, thanks for the reply, you addressed something i had thought i got right lol !

I'll definitely get the storage fixed up - but if you don't mind me asking, how did you you know the storage 1 is NVMe? i'm assuming the card itself is NVMe? and then it is slotting into a SATA?

****edit: storage one right now is a SATA ssd, slotting into NVMe port ****

i'm not too hardware savvy - so my question then is, if im trying to have the OS drive be just the OS and antivirus, a second storage for games i play the most, and then a 3rd drive for less-played games, pictures, etc... what's the best way to go about it?

Does changing motherboards give me more NVMe "slots"? and then I can have two NVMe slots? or am i making things up.

If im understanding it right, i'd probably opt for a different motherboard then, have storage 1 and 2 be NVMes, change storage 1 SSD to a smaller NVMe type, keep storage 2 the same  and maybe change the HDD to a slower SSD at 2TB?

p.s.: the hydrolux cooling style is something i've been wanting for a while now haha not going to lie. This is the first time i am getting a PC and able to actually afford it, so i am treating myself! My current PC is a 1070 that i got after i poured water all over my older one with a 570 while working on my dissertation - so ran to Best Buy and i thought i was walking away with gold haha

Your mobo is fine if you don't need any more bells and whistles or if you MUST HAVE built-in Wi-Fi. It has 2 NVMe slots already, but I think one is enough for now. Short reason is that complex games take their time loading in a certain order which is much faster on a SATA SSD vs a mechanical drive, but not that different from an NVMe SSD. Kind of a waste if that's all it's doing is games.

Storage set-up you want is:
1. Samsung 512GB 970 PRO NVMe
2. Samsung 1 TB 960 EVO
3. WD Black

DON'T get the pricier SSDs, you won't see the difference. I don't recommend any larger than the 1TB SATA because of price. If you want to overpay, get a bigger one for Set 2, but check it out online and see what I mean. You can easily add more when needed at a better price point, but suit yourself. The WD Black will do what you expect.

In no way do you need more PSU.

Hope it helps. If you have any more questions, bring 'em!

The Hydrolux is an open loop cooling system, meaning you can add/remove hardware in the loop for liquid cooling as compared to an AIO which is a closed system and only cools one thing (cpu usually but you also have hybrid gpus that also have closed liquid loops). That said, it requires light periodic maintenance in the best of scenarios and nightmares in the worst.

The type of plumbing is key in ease of handling. Most people will have no issues or DS would not offer hardline. And it does look very cool. I have soft tubing on mine and I am very glad I opted for such. I have had to replace leaky fittings (3), upgrade gpus and regular monkeying around in there. It IS a LOT easier with soft tubing.

With hardline, changing gpu(s) will require new plumbing since the old one will not fit. You or someone has to make it. Any work required will have to be around the plumbing since it will not move. It is tight in there.

Be clear that I am not trying to dissuade you from ordering the Hydrolux with hardline, just so that you know what lies ahead.

I had never had a liquid cooled system and have had to learn a lot but I think of myself as handy and have a lot of tools to break things. It is a lot of fun if you are into learning new skills. Big%20Smile

Enjoy.
