Currently running a Dell 27" Ultrasharp monitor.
Started looking at curved monitors in a slightly larger size this week and ran across the 34” Dell Alienware AW3418DW that might match up well with my new Lumos with the nVidia RTX 2070Super GPU. Anyone have any experience with this monitor? They can currently be bought for $769 on Amazon, hoping that Black Friday might bring them down to the $600 range. Lol.... I don’t have that excellent monitor yet, but I’m watching it for a Xmas upgrade for my sons 2019 Lumos rig...everything I have read says that’s the top of the heap at 1440P in 34” with G-Sync. I have not seen it ever go lower than $679 as they are holding value.
I have used a long line of excellent Dell Ultrasharp 24” panels that just won’t quit...lol. Got the Mrs a Dell Ultrasharp U3417W 34” curved 1440P last year that is playing very nicely with a GTX 1080 Ti...but not a fast panel nor G-Sync. . Like the strong 1900R curve a lot for gaming, same curve as on the Alienware 34”. |

HB, where are you seeing those for $679, or was that a typo?

LOL! That's 2 they have sold in probably the last 10 minutes. We will probably kick ourselves on Black Friday when we see them go under $500!

UPS just dropped it off. Yes, it is a huge box, 42 lbs worth.
I'll post another picture when I get it hooked up. |

Here it is all set-up.
This is definitely a new visual experience, like sitting in the front row at the movie theater. Two issues during setup. It would not accept a signal from Display port 1 on my EVGA RTX 2070 Super GPU, even though my previous Dell monitor worked fine from that port. I switched to DP port 2 and it then worked. The monitor is not quite level along the top, a little lower on the left side than the right right side. I don't see a swivel to adjust the tilt from left to right. My old Dell monitor had that type of swivel adjustment. I applied a very little amount of pressure to try to get the Alienware to tilt in that direction, but no luck. Didn't want to break anything, so I did not push very hard. Will have to call support to see if it will adjust in that direction. |

HB, are you sure it will do clockwise & counter-clockwise rotation?
I don’t see any indications on the back that suggest that type of adjustment is possible. My old Dell Ultrasharp had a circle on the back of the monitor that allowed the rotation, no circle on the back of the 34”. Might have to stick a small felt pad under one of the stand’s feet. It is off about 1/4” from bring level. |

I can't play with this one till after Xmas, but from Dell's own description of the stand....
"The new swivel-hinge combo design supports tilt, swivel and height-adjustability so wherever you feel most comfortable, you’ll still have the best possible vantage point." |

Yes, that is accurate. The missing adjustment is “rotation”.
It does move up and down and adjusts around the vertical and horizontal axes. The 1/4” difference from being level is pretty minor, just an aesthetic thing that bugs me a little bit. I’ll stick a little felt pad under the left front leg of the stand to raise that side a tad. I’ll call Dell and see if there is anyway to adjust the spring tension in the two vertical ht adjustment slots, that might be the source of the problem. Still puzzled as to why it would not accept a signal from one of my DP ports on my GPU. |

Update: I did contact Dell today about the monitor being unlevel when mounted on the stand. They said there is no adjustment to correct for rotation. They offered to send me a new monitor, but I declined for such a minor defect.
I just put a narrow strip of a black felt pad under the left front leg to raise it up a little in order to bring the panel back to nearly level. I can live with that, its not that noticeable. |

I have the same monitor with a 2070 overclocked and it runs Modern warfare at 86-105 FPS on high settings. Love this monitor

My son's new Xmas Dell Alienware AW3418DW 34" IPS 2K/1440P G-Sync Curved 120 Hz monitor is up & running great with his NVidia RTX 2080 FE in his 2019 Lumos. Took one of his 7 yr old 24" Dell IPS 1920 x 1200 monitors out of service, and he is still running the other Dell 24" as a 2nd monitor. The 34" Alienware is the bomb for gaming at 2K/1440P. No problems noted.
He also installed a Corsair 2 x 8 GB Vengeance Pro RGB RAM upgrade kit to double his Vengeance Pro RGB RAM to 32 GB. That normally way easy upgrade was actually tricky, as the top mounted HydroLux Lite cooler unit just barely clears the ASUS ROG Z390 Strix motherboard RAM slot top release levers. Took some maneuvering effort but got the new RAM down and locked and it was up in an instant. |
