Hi all,
I need some help. I thinking about build a gaming rig, on a dell 30" monitor, so i going for the 2560x1600 resolution.I play alot of online games like jade dynasty etc and dow2 also. I want a case that has good air flow, for gpu, I thinking about 2xati5870, its this card good enough to max out most games. I was reading about the 2x480 but its seem it eats alot of power 2 much heat output. Budget is $3500,thanks in advance.

2385 right now, its a good base to start with, realistically, unless youre an overclocking / benchmarking enthusiast or have very specific needs, there isnt too much reason to go higher without wasting money on power you wont use
in my opinion youre better off pocketing anything over ~2600 and saving it for upgrades or a new build in a few years
and by upgrades i do NOT mean sli, your power gain especially with 480s would be both useless and wasteful, unless the extra 30% of graphic power you pay $500 for is going to jump out and clean your house for you
anyway, this gives you a good launch pad.
add some more storage space if you will use it
get some visual frills
you can bump up to an intel 160 ssd
next stage of liq if youre very serious about overclocking
maybe go to the assassin and get liquid cooled cpu and gpu... but you will have to switch to a black ops build to do this

now, if someone told me i had a $3500 1 time gift card to get my computer and i had a week to use it, id get this: $3498

i would say this build i think heard that you have to have 2 480s for 2560 x 1600 to run on high settings... if im wrong then you only need one
also if you dont want the 4 year labor and 2 year parts you can knock off $99 for 3 year labor and 1 parts but i think its worth it 415375 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1250W Enermax Galaxy EVO (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Recommended) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (160GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Extreme Performance) (Model: X25-M MLC Edition) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (2TB Hitachi/Seagate (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVDR/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 1.5GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 Extreme Performance (Does NOT fit on the regular EVGA X58 3X SLI) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Install/Test Game: FREE: Hot-selling game with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 or above graphics card Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Xtra Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 4 Year Limited Warranty with Life-Time Customer Support (4 Year Labor & 2 Year Parts) |

2 GTX 480's would be the minimum I would ever think of for that resolution....SLI scaling on the GTX 4XX have been excellent, 70%-90% gains, and tri is also scaling very well. why play at 20-30 FPS on a single 480GTX, or have to reduce settings to medium to play.... If you have the $$ to do it, then get 2 GTX 480's.. if not 3 for the big monitors.

(Rant) You're on the right track with your reservations about power consumption with 2 GTX 480's. Peak consumption around 850-900W, ~300 at IDLE. OMG.
Heat's not the big deal.
The guys are right about 2 cards for that res, and they're right that 480's will be better, by a smidge, but not that much better to justify what you'll lay out every day more than for 2x5870's. ~45% more. I'm just sayin'.

okie ty all the reply, so to get the most i probably go with the 2x480 and do i need lc for this? Also the what the difference in mem speed..like 1600mhz to 2000mhz...is worth the upgrade? how about 80gb on drive to 160bg, what difference is this going to make?

Ram speed increase won't do any good things for you.
The Intel 160 vs the 80g is purely a luxury. 80 should be plenty if you use it wisely (don't put rarely used stuff on it, leave old games you don't play much on it, put any data on it.) It's a lot of $$ saved, but up to you.
Gonna say again, those cards will waste a lot of energy, and, now looking at how you game, are overkill for online stuff, anyway.

no matter if it is air cooled or water cooled, the heat out put is the exact same. so just put a 800 watt electric heater in your room for a while, and that is about the same amount of heat the PC will put off.
