Hi,

I have a general question. I recently bought one of those 3D capable smart tv's and I decided to try some gaming on it with my pc. My question is do I switch to 3D mode on the tv or do I switch on 3D mode on the graphics card. Does it matter?

Thanks

I believe on the TV, and then on the computer afterwards.

I just asked someone I know who does this. They said the same thing as Alex. Both devices will require 3D to be enabled. TV first, GPU second. You may have to further alter the 3D setting of a particular program, but that what they have been doing with good results.

Just one more question...what about watching 3D movies? I have a blu-ray player in my pc. I bought a 3D blu ray movie. Would I have to turn 3D on my tv first and then on my computer before starting the movie?

Also, I noticed when I enable the 3D settings on my pc it bumps the screen refresh rate from 60 down to 27 hertz. Is that normal?

I'm running 2 nvidia gtx 670's in SLI. My tv is a Samsung 55" Smart TV native res 1900x1080.

Sorry this isnt DS specific but I've purchased a system from DS before and this forum is my 'go to'.

Displaying images in 3D requires twice the refresh rate as 2D to produce the same amount of frames per second. This is why most 3D monitors are advertised as refreshing at 120Hz, 60Hz for each eye, producing the 3D effect at 60 frames per second.

My guess is that your TV is only suitable for 3D television and movies because those are usually shot at 24-30 frames per second. In your case it appears that 27Hz is what it is giving to each eye, for a total of 54Hz.

Ok, so maybe that's why the tv has this setting for 'game mode'.
