Hey all,
Was thinking of ODE3 a few months ago, but have a bit bigger budget now. Was looking at ticket number: 622144 622144 1920/1080 reso(Dell Ultrasharp U2312), have had heat issues before so willing to overdue it to put my mind to ease. Main Questions: 1) What temps can I expect with Stage 3-4 cooling? Why CPU only? Does the GPU matter? 2) Whats the difference in these motherboards: Sabertooth P67 vs. P8P67 Deluxe? 3) Would the 1000W DS or 1050W Corsair PS be enough ? Or is 800 fine? 4) In SLI, in the future, could I replace one of the 570s with a newer model and they would work fine if not exactly the same? Thank you. Looking to take advantage of November sale of $ money/warranty upgrade. Edited by Wipeout - 24 Nov 2011 at 7:08pm |

1. That will be a good answer for DST4ME when he is around so I'll leave that for him.
2. The Deluxe is a little better quality then the Sabertooth. They are the same platform but from the general information I've looked up I've seen fewer complaints about the Deluxe. 3. For SLI you want to go with the 1050HX Corsair. It's better quality and more efficient then the no name certified PSU and has a longer warranty. Even going down a level the 750HX beats the 800W. The are both certified for SLI but with over clocking and water cooling you want some more power so go with the 1050HX. 4. From what I understand about SLI is you want the cards to be as identical as possible. If you upgrade one you will be better off upgrading both. DST may correct me on this but I believe SLI works similar to RAM in that it will only be as good as the weakest part, which is way you always want RAM to be the same too. Take a look at this Ticket #622244. It has a few changes, some that you'll want/need and one you don't have to keep. It's only $185 more then your build. For the case I switched it too the Nvidia Edition 942 HAF X since I noticed you went with green tubes and green lights that you may also like a green case with a green side window. CPU and MOBO I left the same but I changed the PSU to the 1050HX. You also had your drives backwards, you want the SSD as your main OS drive and not as the secondary drive. For the secondary drive I switched from the 500GB WD Caviar Blue to the 1TB Caviar Black has the 1TB has better speeds. If you want to drop back down to 500GB to save money go with the Caviar Black and not the Blue. The Stage 4 CPU cooling is the the cut off between Air and Liquid Cooling. I kept the Stage 4 like you had but if you want to change it to save money you will want to go with the Notcua air cooler and not Stage 3 liquid as the Notcua actually gets better temps. Ok great, thank you. Diggin' that green case..
Eager to hear DSTs response, my main issue is living in areas where room temps are around 75-80+ at times. Edited by Wipeout - 24 Nov 2011 at 11:17pm |

That is a warm environment for a rig like that. The Stage 4 may be useful but one other thing make sure to request the second, optional, 200mm top exhaust to increase the overall airflow of the case. Check with a sales rep for the price of the fan.

jm299 made the correct changes (psu, case, hdd, hdd setup/etc), but first I'm gonna say we gonna go off his build.
now off of his build, everything is right, just change teh case lighting to uv, since your stage 4 lc has uv tubes, they need uv light to glow. he gave you the nvidia version of haf which basically has 200mm green led fans, giving great airflow and green led. now some info: a. if your room temps is high, lc is not gonna help you much, both air and lc use fans, blowing 80f or higher air is not gonna help those fans help you with high temps. b. for hdd with go with the 1TB BC or wait, hdd prices have tripled in the past months or so, they should come down again, so perhaps its best you wait and add the hdd in a few months yourself. now your questions: 1. load temps depend mainly and first on your room temp, then your cooling. why cpu only? not sure you picked cpu only, you can lc the gpus if you like but the cost goes up high. LC is not a necessity its a luxury, so you can do cpu only or cpu and gpu, gpus will have better load temp on lc again given that the room temp is below 80f, otherwise heat is gonna be an issue. 3. the 1000w hx has a long record for reliability and performance, the hx line and the ax line are the highend best psus from corsair, I only use hx and ax models for that reason and only recommend those, both 1050hx and 750w hx have a 7 year warranty, the 1000w from DS is from a reseller (technps), we dont know the real maker, we don't know the track record, and it only has a 2 year warranty. For best gaming experience and to make the pc last a long time but feel powerful, we recommend you upgrade sli in 2 to 3 years, now if in the future you want to upgrade the sli to future cards and they have needs of a 580 sli the 750w/800w can't do it. 4. as jm299 said in sli you are as good as your weak card, so its best to match vram and clocks, I'm not sure if 570 and say 670 will work in sli and even if they did you would match sli 570 performance since you are as good as your weak card. Noctua/a70 are king, till you get to stage 4, but they won't help you with high room temps, best bet is to lower the temp of the room with a small mobile ac unit.

Good catch on the lighting DST, I meant to change it but I forgot. When I had first planed my own $3k build I had that case with the UV lighting to give the the green/purple look, like the Joker.
So Wipeout, if you are a Joker fan like I am think of your rig with the Joker's face lazer etched on to the side window... Edited by jmaster299 - 24 Nov 2011 at 11:47pm |
