Hi Everyone, after doing all my research I think I have settled on the build I want. Details are below. Please let me know what you think.
My original intention (when considering having the Sabertooth motherboard) was to add a wireless network card and a sound card. However, a few people suggested that the ASUS Z87 Deluxe was a better board and it offered on board wireless and good sound (having optical out is essential for me/my headset). ----------- Budget: $4000-$4500 Expectations: Gaming: Play Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 on max graphics at 120FPS. Usage: Mostly gaming. Some photo and video editing. May record some gameplay too. Special Needs: I want specifc graphics cards and motherboard not listed on Digital storm site. I was told to put details in the special comments and submit my order and I'd hear back with an exact price, but the only options I seem to get are to input credit card details, check, etc. How can I get a quote, taking into account the specific Video Cards and alternative Motherboard, before I go ahead and officially choose to purchase? Build looks awesome.
Can't answer the quote price. I would contact them by phone or email. Good luck on a real nice rig.

I also meant to ask:
Will both of the hard drive hot swap bays on the front of the case by wired up and ready for use? |

I've actually wondered about that description for awhile as well. Bprat22 is professional though,

Actually I totally forgot about that. We changed it to a more accurate description now "Get feedback from other customers and enthusiasts about a new configuration." Thank you for pointing this out. |

Hi ScottishBattleAx......This is a great place to discuss configs and try to answer questions. We usually do a decent job and have fun with it but, at least for myself, questions come up that I/ we just can't answer.
The hot swap bay question was one of those questions but I should have replied and explained that at one time the answer was always, Yes, the bays are wired for power and to the mobo sata ports, But, recent answers from DS was that Not Always since they have had problems with the hot swaps. I couldn't explain what the problem was so just let it slide. We win some we lose some. Good luck. Tidgxor called me a Professional... I thought he knew me better than that. I guess I will just ask them to wire up the hot swap ports and see what happens :)
I may wait a month or two before placing my order (ill be out of the country for a while). What concerns me is that the graphics cards I want are currently sold out everywhere. I wonder if i could get DS to order them (and my special order motherboard) and keep them for me until I'm ready to go ahead. I shall ask. Thanks |

The one problem I have heard about the hot swaps is that, mechanically, plugging a drive in can be a pain. Tight and some jiggling is necessary.
DS will hold a build but not sure they'll special order without money to hold so they don't get stuck with them and whatever cost to get. But, only DS can answer for sure. |

Didn't realize hot swaps could be so troublesome. It's not a hugely important feature for me, just thought it would be nice to have if in the future I find myself handling large amounts of data. At least the HAF case has plenty room for many more hard drives anyway.
Sure I wouldn't expect DS to order in parts without being paid first. I shall think about what I want to do. Not sure if I want to commit yet then find myself wanting to change spec... Maybe ill splurge on dual Titans after all ;) |

Titans are the best, but the 780 is 90% of the performance for 75% of the money. Not dis'ing the Titan. You can't go wrong either way. Also, oc'ing a video card shows only a small bump in performance but more stress.
Just my 2¢. |

Yeah I know. I wouldn't throw away all that extra cash on titans. Way more power than I need.
I do intend to get the superclocked versions of the 780's from EVGA, but I won't be overclocking them any further. |

Alex, you may also want to update the text on the page displayed after saving a configuration https://www.digitalstormonline.com/sendconfig.asp It still has the pro review/pro advice message the forum used to have. |

I have updated my build. Changed from Win 7 to Win 8. Upgraded the power supply to have more power (for future upgrades) and to Platinum (more efficient/less heat wasted into the case). Added another 1TB of storage.

I saw on another thread that a customer supplied some of their own parts for a Digital Storm build.
Do Digital Storm add any surcharges if customer supplies their own parts? Edited by ScottishBattleAx - 24 Jun 2013 at 6:18am |

Not sure, but I know i've seen some builds where custoemrs send their hdds and such. I imagine this to be a HUGE pain in case of any warranty issues or compatibility problems, the wait is long enough as it is with only a few special requests! lol I'm throwing in my opctical drives and hdds when it arrives.

Only Alex or a DS rep can say for sure, but I am almost positive that there is a surcharge for this. Its essentially a "fee" that DS adds on to the part to factor in their warranty. This fee is already incorporated into the prices of their stock items, so a new item would have a fee (set or calculated) added to it, to cover the testing/warranty/etc. That extra price margin is how DS makes a profit.

Yes, we add a special order fee and also a labor fee on each part. I recommend contacting our team for a quote. It can be from $50-$175 depending on what item it is. |
