I was blown away when I saw this. The new 4850X2 which was just released is beating the 280 in nearly all benchmarks (by a sizable margin too!). In fact, it's not that much slower than the 4870X2 and it's almost half the cost.
Best part: it's only $280 for the OC'd edition at newegg too!

Nice, Fudzilla has a review out saying that Nvids new sammich will dominate ATIs offerings, but as far as i know ATI already has a 40nm chip, so theyre ahead of nvidia on that front.

All these new cards will surely drive the prices down for all of us. 280$ is cheap, way too cheap considering nvids 280 goes for close to 390$! Sleepy

Oh, oh.. i mean Ouch.

Yeah you said it.

Fudzilla isn't exactly a reliable source though. Considering the 260's specs and the amount of heat dual-PCB cards make I'm skeptical the 285 will beat the 4870X2.

Even if it does wind up besting the 4870X2 (which is highly unlikely) the 4850X2 will still be a way better deal because the 285 will be priced similarly to the 70X2.

gtx280 in tri sli will beat this in quad cf so I wouldn't say the card your talking about is a killer.

Explain how a $280 card beating a $400 card by more than 5fps is not a killer.

Perhaps three 280's could be CF 4850X2's but think of how much more you'll spend on the 280's for a little more performance.

Wow that's a great deal. But it's a sale, it's not going to last forever.

Even if the 280 was the same price as the 4850X2 it wouldn't matter, the performance speaks for itself.

Actually in january we should see price drops for the gtx280 since new cards are being released. And performance will be better when you consider the gtx280 can do tri sli while the 4850x2 can only do quad cf.  Time to watch our cards lose value.

The cooling on it looks pretty nice

btw have any of you taken a look at this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByDM_t0CVDI&feature=channel_page

seems like a 4870x2 with mega cooling I wonder how well it would do, although they are undecided as to produce it.

Yeah that's the PaliT 700 Revolution (an overclocked 4870X2). All they did was OC the memory 50mhz and there was a sizable speedboost. It's been reviewed by a bunch of sites and it's available now I believe.
