I see 4k monitors >40", but none of there seem to be G-Sync monitors. Is G-Sync necessary?

Last I looked, there were only two 4k monitors that could go above 60 Hz. One from Asus and one from Acer (figures). Both are 27-inchers, so they just aren't big enough to make any sense at near $1800, and what it takes to drive them.
Before recently, cabling couldn't carry enough bandwidth to go above 60 Hz, and HDMI still can't. ASUS ROG PG27UQ Acer Predator X27 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR |

nVidia G-Sync is a good feature to have in a monitor if your video card supports G-Sync, but no ...you can survive just fine if you don’t have it.

Personally I would say go with the Acer 27" XG270HU it is a freesync monitor but it is gsync compatible. You lose response time and refresh rate when you go 4k. I just made a thread with the full list of Gsync capable/compatible monitors.
