Ok.  What is the absolute best PC that you can buy from DS for about $5500?  It's ok if you go a little over or under.  This is not including a monitor, sound system, ect.  But if you would like to recommend any from newegg or someplace else, then please do.

Thanks!

First off let me say you are in a GREAT spot with a budget like that! I wish my budget was even close to yours.
Now what resolution is your new moniter going to be at? or what size moniter are you thinking of?

OK so don't let the lower ram or the 920 fool you, both 965 with 2000MHz ram and 920 with 1600MHz ram at 4.0GHz run pretty much everything the same speed, well lets just say you will never notice the difference.

as for 275 vs 295, 275 has like 5 fps more performance, but the 295 takes less pci slots then sli 275.

I would get the 920. The 965 is just extremely overpriced. I also don't think the performance of the 920 is any worse than the 965 as long as its really nicely overclocked. Save your money and get the 920 and then buy the new processors when they are released to the market.

To tell you the truth if I had a budget like that I would go for something like this

And with the money left over you could either

A. spend it on extras EX. bigger/faster drive, blueray player, or chassis air flow upgrade.

B. Send the leftover money to me, for me to add to my budget.Thumbs%20Up

The truth is with a $5500 budget he has room to spoil himself. its still far under his budget.

he asked "What is the absolute best PC that you can buy from DS for about $5500?"

So that is my answer, it certainly does not mean he needs the absolute best. Or that he will notice a a big difference. However like I said if I had a budgit like that I would feel free to spoil myself a bit.

The 975 is a great chip, but a complete waist, unless the owner is going to OC themsevles. The 975 will do 5.6-6.4Ghz for benching, over the 920 D0 that usually tops out around 5.2-5.5Ghz. For 24/7 the 920 or 975 will be limited on cooling, not the chips potential OC, making the 975 0% better than the 920 for 24/7 useage.

@ B@d//j0ke, there is nothing with spoiling himself but 12GB of ram offers zero performance gain, so thats not spoiling one's self, its a waste of money, that money would be better used for faster HDD for storage or at least something that you get to see and use the performance gain.

@ MyNameisBrian, what do you think I'm doing

@pockyking535, if you gonna spoil yourself do so with something that you can tell the difference whether its there or not.

@ <8) slunK parade, isn't you build duplicate of one of my builds?

Well I certainly cant argue with that. It would be better spent on better drives, or air flow upgrades.. Ether way there are alot of choices with that kinda budget.

PS thnx for using my full name DST, lol.

what do you mean by air flow upgrade?  i thought that the HAF had the best airflow already...do you mean more case fans?

DSO offers a air flow upgrade, with it they replace the stock case fans with new fans. you can also choose LED color when you get the air flow upgrade in case you don't want the stock red.

the HAF does have the best air flow, but getting a little more NEVER hurts. I don't know exactly what DSO replaces them with. However I'm sure DST could tell you.
