Just in time when the 69xx series will be launched end of this year. Looks like Nvidia was prepared.
When's the ETA?

they are "getting close" to releasing it. 5-50% better than the gtx 480 which sounds really amazing.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/nvidia_reportedly_working_gtx_580_counter_cayman plus theres a rumor the gtx 460 and 470 will have a major price drop within a few days to steal some thunder from the ati launch of the 69xx series |

Hmmm, I wonder how much truth there is to the time-frames I keep reading. I've seen as soon as early November, all the way up to January of 11.
I'm not normally big on tech rumors, but this one keeps catching my eye as I'm getting close to purchasing a GTX 480, which, I might not end up doing if these rumors end up being true. |

well ya, the TDP and heat output was pretty, eh, impressive shall we say it. lol. but hopefully, the successor to that is supposed to improve and not be that nuts, lol, right?
DigiTimes is claiming that nVidia's set to release the 580 by late Nov or Dec. Doubt it, but hey, you never know (stole that mega Million guy's thunder, lol) |

Either way when this card is released the price on my Rig will go down, so I am all for it. If the 480s drop a little I might go with those instead of 470s not that the difference is all that noticeable. Unfortunately my buddy will probably get those just so he can say he has a better rig so to speak. Sigh.

I don't know how reliable this website is, as I'm not up on that sort of thing, but I figured I would share this as it pertains to the topic:

well...that's interesting. it doesn't looked shopped to me.
additionally, is it not coincidental that nvidia has already reached the end of one driver release? current driver is 260.99. annnd... http://en.expreview.com/2010/10/29/supporting-gtx-580nvidia-geforceion-261-00-driver-comes-out/11270.html (driver 261 does exist btw, check Guru3d) Edited by ablahblah - 30 Oct 2010 at 10:20pm |

I'm very interested to see some actual numbers in regards to the temperatures and power consumption of this bad boy. If the images floating around of the GTX 580 are legitimate, it doesn't look nearly as "beefy" as the 480 does, at least to me. Perhaps that's a sign of better efficiency?
EDIT: Again, I make no claims to accuracy or validity here, but I found this intriguing: http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/20702-nvidias-gtx-580-detailed Edited by Tidgxor - 01 Nov 2010 at 4:44pm |

as justin says, don't trust the fud, heh. I'm not too big on the validity of these either, I mean what are really the odds nVidia had something in the pipeline this long and we haven't found out something?
then again, the big green club did mention something about releasing the GeForce 500 series this year though. http://www.overclockersclub.com/news/26376/ Edited by ablahblah - 03 Nov 2010 at 1:48am |

Here's a few more links I've found, all of them feeding the rumor fires. If the price-tag on this card turns out to be true, I'm really wondering how AMD will respond with their price range.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/asus-leaks-gtx-580-spec/10220 http://www.hardocp.com/news/2010/11/03/geforce_gtx_580_599_at_launch63/ http://vr-zone.com/articles/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-priced-at-us-599-to-be-available-november-9th-/10222.html http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nvidia-GTX-580-to-be-Released-on-November-8-9-Benchmarks-Leaked-164427.shtml Again, no idea on how reliable these sites are, I've of course heard of them all, but I'm way out of touch on who are the "go-to" people anymore. Well, what do we have here?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/07/nvidia-promises-fastest-dx11-gpu-on-the-planet-very-very-soon/ nVidia directly describes what they call "unreleased nvidia tech" at PDX LAN... Sounds a lot like the GTX 580, since everything he says implies the flagship successor to the GTX 480. Promises quieter and cooler operation with better performance. City demo looks fairly impressive Edited by ablahblah - 07 Nov 2010 at 1:05pm |

I just got done watching that video, I'll have to agree that the demo certainly looked impressive.
Before I googled PDXLAN, I honestly thought this was some sort of stock-holder dinner or something, everyone seemed way too excited about the two billion polygons. |

Ya I watched the video earlier, the thing that stuck with me is the new vapor cooling. Is that going to be a self contained deal on every card as it sounds like some kind of water cooling setup. If so I wonder if theres any maintence required with them going that route to help keep the higher end cards cooler.

I was woundering the same thing, I also was woundering if it has a chance of ever leaking out and causing some damage to the componets. Is it going to be like astec and corsair type cooling thing, meaning the coolant is self contained and last an X ammount of time before you have to get a new one, which I believe is 50,000 hrs? Nothing new about this type of cooling, Sapphire has been doing it in their Vapor X series for a long time now.

Nothing like the asetec crap, it is the same cooling as in almost all air cooler for CPU's. |

oh ports oops.
and didn't know if it was this thread that showed the ports in a link or it was something in my feeds or it was the new amd card or something.... its a monday i'm out of it. k its 2x dvi and 1x micro hdmi thats cool because this card on its own could probably support some widescreen gaming on its own. don't know about at 1080p tho Edited by maxyme - 08 Nov 2010 at 6:16pm |

1080P is very low resolution at only 30FPS?? why buy a GTX 580 and waste it on low res, low frames per second setup? Get a $90.00 card for 1080P.
on a side note, someone said the GTX 580 overall would be 18% faster than the GTX 480... looks like that someone was pretty f ing close.
